Brian Lockwood.

Post by old cas lass » 05 Oct 2024, 13:52

My good friend, the great Brian Lockwood, remains seriously ill in Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield this weekend.
Brian is being treated for pneumonia brought on by pulmonary fibrosis and has been in hospital for a couple of weeks, initially to have a tumour removed from his hand, which subsequently developed cellulitis.

Never saw him play as not my generation but heard great things about him from my mum and dad.

What a star.Phenomenal for Cas and saw a lot of him in the late 70s when I lived in Hull, and he was still brilliant. Good luck for a speedy recovery Brian

Very good player and had a stint at Wakey at the back end. Then went on to run a pub in outwood for many years. Hope he pulls around

Brian ran a pub in methley after retiring from RL. Food was exceptional.
On one of my regular visits there we chatted about RL and he told me that when he played in the Cas pack in the late 1960’s they allowed the opposition forwards to have the ball for the first 20 minutes so our pack could knock theirs about then let our backs throw the ball about. That was the sun total of Cas tactics.
Favourite team to knock about was Leeds.
Really nice bloke. I wish him a speedy recovery🙏

Very sad news indeed. Brian was a fantastic player who I was fortunate enough to watch on many occasions. Sadly yet another of the 69 and 70 challenge cup winning squads that is no longer with us. Condolences to Brian's Family and Friends. RIP

My condolences to his family and may he rest in peace. He was a great servant to the Tigers and tough as granite, never took a backward step. Thanks for all the wonderful memories.

Didn’t he have a sports shop on Beancroft Lane? I think I may have bought my first boots from him and some of this lovely shoulder pads…

Believe Brian was in partnership with Knocker Norton, remember buying a Cas shirt from Steve when it first opened.

Despite playing three times more games for us than Hull KR, the good old BBC has their headline that Brian was a “Hull KR legend”….

Yeah it was Knocker Norton.
I'm another who bought my first set of boots there.

Rest in peace Brian
