Re: New signing, retention?
a 10 yard rule would be great , but much neaer 5 these days when the ball is played!
Re: New signing, retention?
Don't think some teams have heard of the 10m rule, especially Saints.

Re: New signing, retention?
In his interview on X Maguire was full of praise for Delaney labelled him the best defence coach in SL bring in a couple more forwards and I think we will go well next season

Not looking great on any props.
From what I read in McGuire interview quota will be used in a 2nd rower.
Says he’s happy with squad surely not.

Our props are absolutely dire. Our two best are at a combined age of 70. Mustapha is 5 foot 8.
Lawler is a better back rower. Hall hasn’t got any muscle and doesn’t have no go forward. Hudson never played a super league game. Griffin is past his best. Namo ok for a couple of drives then he’s knackered. Why we’ve used a quota spot on a hooker when we had Robb and Horne already and we’ve got Alfie howwell coming through academy and windley can play there too. And this rimbu is unproven just like cini.

I still think Rimbu is a great signing when you look at the bigger picture .Tigersbarmy wrote: ↑18 Nov 2024, 15:13 Our props are absolutely dire. Our two best are at a combined age of 70. Mustapha is 5 foot 8.

Watts and Westy may well be our best props next season , but with Rimbu coming we can now move Horne to LF , which frees up Westy to play at Prop . Without Rimbu we would be struggling.
That said if Rimbu turns out to be as good as we hope he will , and he becomes our best hooker , then he should be starting hooker irrespective of who else we have . He also gives us a bit of cover in the halves.
The real issue for me , like many , is our shortage of props , although I do think Namo got better with every game last year and looked good for PNG but I accept that this isn't the view we all share .
A couple of proven SL props or at least a quota spot filled by an overseas prop with another second rower and things start to look a lot better . Hudson and Metvejev (impressed with him in the limited game time he had at the end of last season) could still prove fruitful , who knows , and we have been shouting out for props with size which both do have .

Re: New signing, retention?
Can't believe McGuire is happy with the squad as it stands as it is in a worse place than last seasons. We have let 6 forwards go with no replacements coming in. We must have spent considerable less than even last season and we need a minimum of 2 props to go into the 17 plus a decent back rower and some cover at half back. I had hoped things would start to improve under the new regime........
Re: New signing, retention?
look at what the club have let go, none showed any sort of first team form, except EL Zakeman who wanted away shame we could not have tempted him to stay, Macca hardly fit last season a great player who was finding super league was getting too hard for him and did the right thing and stepped down, i would doubt if we have spent the same on players that as come in to what as left i think the club will be announcing new players when the right fit comes along

Daniel Hindmarsh, Luis Johnson, Samy Kibula and Nixon Putt, would we be happy if we invited them back?
‘What words of wisdom will Dennis share this time...?'
Re: New signing, retention?

Re: New signing, retention?

Certainly not but some extra bodies will be needed when injuries kick in that;s for sure.
