[Match Discussion] Watts
Wattsy
2018- was absolutely buzzing when we signed him. Could have been highest profile player we’ve signed in my era. He was in top 5 props in league IMO. I would be absolutely gutted when he would miss a game.
He was very good 2018-2020.
The last game we played before lockdown when we played saints he was the best prop on the pitch, which included Alex walmsley and Luke Thompson. I can remember 2018 I think it was I’m sure he played 80 minutes against Wigan away.
Fast forward to the last 2 years and I think he’s been a shadow of his former self. He seems to have picked up really lazy habits. The amount of times the last 2 years I’ve seen him just make lazy swinging arm attempts on players or he’s put his foot out and tripped players up. He’s gone from a 80 minute prop to barely squeezing out 20 mins these days. It’s so sad to see the decline of wattsy it really is but I think he’s finished now at this level. Not a personal attack just disappointing to see the decline of once such a cracking player

Re: [Match Discussion] Watts
Simply not bothered about the game anymore looks like he’s not bothered with training etc.
Like I said on another thread heard he’s retiring.

Re: [Match Discussion] Watts
He might as well retire, with how much time he spends banned. Unbelievable coaching and unbelievable discipline from watts
Re: [Match Discussion] Watts
sick of seeing him walking the ball into the opposition & turning to his back at the point of impact, only matagi seems to run in hard

I’m glad I’m not the only one that see’s this.
Just question his lack of effort.
Think it’s best he either goes to wakey or fev

Re: [Match Discussion] Watts
We have too many forwards who are plodder of late. I was hoping Radford would change this with the way he used to run Hull.
We need to sign a few hard running big props who can go hard. Even if they can only have 15-20min stints. We have plenty of other forwards who can do the other minutes.

Re: [Match Discussion] Watts
Hull have the funds to go out and spend big on nasty forwards, we don't. We just tie up average players like Milner and Griffin to better, bigger contracts.

Re: [Match Discussion] Watts
Never quite sure on the money thing being an excuse. I know there are exceptions to the cap but Pearson claims Hull are in danger of going bust and we posted a £500k profit so how can we be the ones who can’t afford big nasty forwards?
Re: [Match Discussion] Watts
That's right we're spending the full salary cap before Radford came he said he wouldn't be interested in the job unless we were going to put together a team to win something and use all the salary cap
The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have

Spending the full salary cap isn't enough to keep up with the big teams who are spending the full cap plus a few extra marquee players.

I really don't get this "Big Nasty Prop" from what I've seen big nasty props spend more time banned than on the pitch. Best props I've seen in the last 40 years wouldn't come under this banner. Kevin word dean Sampson Barry Johnson Lee crooks grant Millington to name a few
Re: [Match Discussion] Watts
I remember Jon Wells saying once we had the capacity to sign a marquee player wether that was true or has changed I've no idea

But I thought we spend to the cap??? Surely we have money available to bring in 2 big forwards.
Re: [Match Discussion] Watts
Exactly. Finally someone else with a modicum of sense. “Big nasty props / forwards” like Kane Evans, Kane Tetevano and Liam Watts are more often banned than on the pitch.Derbyshiretiger wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 10:47 I really don't get this "Big Nasty Prop" from what I've seen big nasty props spend more time banned than on the pitch. They all played in an era where you could what you wanted. Barry McDermott would be banned for life had he played in this era. The game has changed and moved on from them you mention.Fumper27 wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 11:54Exactly. More like a timid pussy cat.
I’d love a prop like warmsley.
Big, can break tackles, can take 2/3 men with him.
Very rarely gets a ban or injured.

Re: [Match Discussion] Watts
Absolutely. Watts is big and has been banned for 8 matches this season. How nasty do we want?Fumper27 wrote: ↑09 Aug 2022, 11:54Exactly. I remember when Mal brought in one or two really nasty forwards around 1977 people like Tony Fisher and particularly John Burke plus another one who’s name temporarily evades me. My recollection is that Burke spent most of the end of his career suspended. Forwards got away with a lot more in those days. Nasty doesn’t work

An enforcer with controlled aggression is probably what they are called now
I think Liam's problem is he gets frustrated when the team aren't playing particularly well which leads to him making bad decisions.
Still puts in as much if not more effort in than most of the forwards in the team in my opinion
