What does a captain do.

Participate in the coin toss.
Lift a trophy (highly unlikely)
Maybe give more interviews than normal.
Have more input in team meetings.

Anything else.
Sets the standard on and off the field much like Roby does.

If you're in Maccas boots and you're the captain, not playing well for whatever reason and everyone looks to you for some sort of lift in training or on game day, when your backs are against the wall, like it as been a few times this season and you can't, then that will weight heavy on you. I can count at least 5 games this season Macca has looked dejected and defeated. Maybe personal issues as well as on field performances, who knows.

Responsibility for others can weigh on some peoples shoulders a lot more than some people would think - pressure can and does take its toll. Some people are made for it and some aren't. Time will tell whether Macca is but, by his own admission in an interview, the captaincy has taken a lot longer for him to get used to than he thought.

If it’s affecting how he’s playing he should hand it over.
One player we need at full capacity on the field is Macca.

Well he was good enough to be in the England team last Saturday so he must be doing something right, even if he hasn’t been quite at the top of his game.

Purely for Wane to see which hookers would stand up, as he wants to take 2 of them in to the WC.
Daz has arguably had a worse season thus far than Macca and was still picked.

Wane acknowledged that he wasn’t at his best but didn’t write him off post match. There’s half a season still to go

No chance of even getting in the England squad absolutely garbage again.

The tackle last week on the Cats player who looked certain to score by McSHANE was worth the admission fee alone...

McShane's problem this is half the time he has been stuck behind a pack going backwards. On the days we've managed to compete with the opposition forwards he's looked good but those days have been less than previous seasons this year and and hooker or halfback would struggle in those circumstances. We really need some extra grunt up front next year.
