When I was on nights at Lumb’s, used to go into Hepworths yard at snap time to share verbal abuse with the women sewing in the Town Tailors. (Now Burberry). Some of those ladies were far from ladylike, turned the air blue….happy days.

i was an apprentice fitter at lumbs in the sixties. if the small welding team at lumbs were too busy we pulled our stuff on a bogey/large trolley to be seen to. it was an amazing place with a huge blacksmiths forge and antiquated belt driven machinery. if we were unfortunate enough to get there at their snap time i was made to fight/wrestle their apprentice. the floor was red clay and with the sweat and dust we looked a mess after the 15 minutes.
