Super League is delighted to announce a landmark deal with Channel 4 which will see Betfred Super League matches broadcast on free-to-air TV for the first time. First up will see Leeds Rhinos take on Warrington Wolves on Saturday 12th February, 12:30 KO.
The link the RFL have posted doesn't work, so cannot attach as of yet, but can only be a good thing for Rugby League.

Radford made a comment at yesterdays light switch on, that we start with some tasty fixtures, read in to that what you want.

Doesn’t say that’s the first game of the season, just that it’s the first game on C4

Is it, I didn’t know. Thought it started earlier due to World Cup.

That’s not how I read it. I think it’s 10 in total. After the first game, “the remaining 9 will include 2 play off games”

It's interesting that any fixtures are publicised before the full fixture is launched. Always thought there was an agreement by the press not to do so.

Anyway, good news.

This is great news for fans who like to watch Super League in general and not just their team. Unfortunately I'm not one of those fans. Not to be negative but I can only see this being bad for getting supporters into the ground, which in turn sacrifices revenue and general atmosphere at games. That said, broadcasting RL across more platforms will hopefully help the sport expand. Time will tell

I think that anything that broadcasts RL free on national TV is essential oxygen for the game. Having lived outside the RL heartlands for most of the last 40 years, mainly in the Midlands the only times I’ve been able to discuss RL with locals about a match they’ve watched is after the BBC screening an international or a Challenge Cup game.
Older ones still remember classy Cas from the 60s floodlit trophy on BBC2 though!!

I remember huddling around a tv set trying to get a picture to watch the floodlight trophy you were lucky if you got the indoor ariel in the right position to see anything
But yeah good news for RL in this country and there will be a lot of coverage of the sport on terrestrial tv when the world cup starts as well

Second halves on Grandstand!

Floodlit trophy to showcase BBC2 colour provision. I was a student then, and we used to go to a motel on the A1 to watch it.

I remember being delighted when Radio Leeds began live commentary on games, it was the first time you could keep up without waiting for the Green’un!

Interesting that Channels 4 headquarters is now in Leeds. Wonder if that's had any bearing on the deal for RL.
