McLelland announced

Castleford Tigers are delighted to announce Callum McLelland has re-joined the Club on a two-year contract, with an option for a further two years.

A proud product of the Tigers youth system, McLelland joined Castleford at the age of 14 from local amateur side Lock Lane and worked his way through the Scholarship and Academy programmes at the Tigers and starred for England Youth at both Under 16 and Under 18 levels.

In 2017, McLelland made the switch to Scottish Rugby Union and gained eight caps for Scotland U20’s before joining Leeds Rhinos in August 2018 and made his long-awaited Super League debut against Castleford in 2019.

After four years away from Wheldon Road, the 22-year-old halfback is overjoyed to be returning to the Club he has cheered on since he was a boy.

I suppose radfird hoping at least 2 out of the 4 can click on match days. I was hoping for something alot better, but I suppose they are all young and should in theory only improve. I think we are done with the signings after the latest guy from hull

Looking forward to seeing what him and the other half backs can now do behind a more fitter and mobile pack. Roll on next season.

having watched McLelland partner Trueman in the under 19S i always thought McLelland was the better of the two pairing them up again may be a good shout

May be, or are we just trying for the "future British half pairing" that we were meant to have with Trueman and Richardson. I'm all for going for younger lads and hoping the kick on but I think we're lacking and experienced half that can organise a team, which I've not seen from Trueman and wouldn't expect from McLellend

He can't be that bad surely haven't seen him play so can't really comment but his defence can't be as bad as Richardson

The fact we saw fit to get rid and since he has been shipped on from RU and now Leeds makes it hard to be excited by this. He has youth on his side and could well develop but I really feel half back is the weak link and we need an instant fill for that role.

I'm genuinely interested to find out from people on here, who always expect better than what we sign, who they think we should be getting and who they deem better within a budget??!!

You've got a point. While I agree with the idea we need a more experienced/good organising half its hard to say who we could realistically have got. Sezer? Not likely. May be some options in the NRL but it's always a gamble and anyone proven we couldn't afford.

Quotes at the time were Callum was targeted by the Scottish RFU as an "emerging talent" so did we really "get rid" or did he simply explore other opportunities. As for his return to Leeds I Understand a fee was paid to secure his services and once again prior to him signing for us Agar was quoted as saying Callum had been offered a new contract but had declined, would think he'd have limited opportunity behind Gale,Austen and Sezer. So he's hardly a reject just not settled anywhere for whatever reason.
That said Dennis,I'm not overly excited by his signing either and agree a more experienced half would be more beneficial.

Luke Gales resume before Cas was hardly noteworthy...allowed to leave Leeds, Doncaster, London Broncos, Bradford Bulls (who were relegated)

Especially when Trueman Richardson and Obrian are all under contract next season you can't sign another top earning half back until two of them are off your books I wouldn't have thought

Just as any other team signing a squad player would not give us sleepless nights. Let’s comment on what Mclelland is, a project who may or may not pay off.

Given that O'Brien is a utility and Richardson not long back was expected to be released I don't think an experienced half back would be a silly signing especially when that's clearly what we're lacking. I don't care if we had 10 half backs in the team, if it's an area we're weak in then we need someone better than we have and I'm not sure McLellend is. That said, Radders seems to be recruiting well so if he likes him then I hope to be proven wrong

I don't hold out much hope. He's very average at best.
