Re: 2022 Rule changes
how about 5 Points for a try scored from a pass and 4 points for a try scored from a kick. Just might take some of the predictability of the 6th tackle up and under

So what would you get for returning a kick for a try?North Leeds Tiger wrote: ↑12 Oct 2021, 12:06 how about 5 Points for a try scored from a pass and 4 points for a try scored from a kick. Just might take some of the predictability of the 6th tackle up and under

Re: 2022 Rule changes
a very healthy Five.
My point is that a lot of teams get to the last tackle and lump it up to the 6ft 5 Winger. I think its more skillfull to score through the hands and that could be rewarded with an extra point.

I agree with orrsomes points 1 and 3-6. Definitely think we should have video refs at each game (with a minimum number of cameras in operation, this should be funded centrally) even, if there is no big screen. Then as in Aus, you get a confirmation of a try by "the bunker" and the ref can still refer it if they want. Similarly for serious foul play in game not just during the scoring of a try.
Having a video ref at each game means you could introduce captains challenge on the same basis as the aussies. I would amend the ball steal rule so that it has to be 1:1 and as soon as another defender joins the tackle a ball steal is not allowed, even if they fall off again. Having a ball steal encourages ball players to keep the ball safe and if it comes loose the current rules apply.

Re: 2022 Rule changes
The RFL Board has approved three changes to the Laws to apply for the 2022 season which were recommended by the Laws Committee: the return of scrums; the scrapping of the ball steal rule; and a requirement for injured players to be removed from the field of play for treatment.

Hard to disagree with any of those.

Be good to see scrums back.

Re: 2022 Rule changes
Personally would rather the occasional wrong call or "we don't have enough to over turn that decision" than every check taking 5 mins watching it over and over. Also what if you can't see on the video if the ball was grounded or not? When this is the case they go with the refs decision. Were this not the case they would simply be guessing, whereas at least the ref may have seen something you can't see on camera and can influence the decision accordingly

come back the days when hookers were hookers

The rules state the ball must be ‘heeled’ not rolled backwards which is why they should have to play the ball with the foot.FIat Capper wrote: ↑11 Oct 2021, 16:59Whilst I agree with the NRL observation, I'm not sure about the Saints one.orrsome wrote: ↑11 Oct 2021, 16:32 Playing the ball with the foot doesn’t seem to slow the game in NRL.
It helps officials by giving them a point of reference for deciding if defenders are off side by them moving forward before the ball is played. If they’re not allowed to move until the ball is touched with the foot the attacking team has a bit more time.
Rolling the ball on the ground (incorrect PTB) is what Sts “line speed” is based on. They start moving forward when the ball is moving towards the ground, limiting the attackers time.
A few weeks ago the comments of a ref were picked up on the TV coverage and the Ref was clearly heard to say, you can't move forward until the ball is played backwards, not when the ball is placed on the ground. These were then repeated by the commentator (Bill Arthur IIRC).
I also believe the rules do not ask that the foot is placed on the ball, only that the ball is played backwards whilst the foot is in in the air, and this includes rolling it along the ground with the hand. In essence, you motion to play the ball backwards with the foot but you can place the ball on the ground without the defensive line moving forward.
This is enforced in NRL and their players do comply as they should in SL.
