RFL Working Group

Post by tykeneil » 10 Sep 2021, 12:39

New group set up to look at issues in game.

"The members of the Strategic Working Group are Gary Hetherington (Leeds Rhinos), Paul Lakin (Hull KR), Eamonn McManus (St Helens), Stuart Middleton (Warrington Wolves), Karen Moorhouse (RFL) and Ralph Rimmer (RFL)."

Maybe if they involved ALL teams they may get somewhere.
It’s the same old same.

He was the only one with the brains to stand up against Elstone’s stupid private equity scheme.

The super League make nothing. Selling a percentage for actual money in return for no voting rights or money (unless they make some) seemed quite a good idea at the time. Instead it cost 400k to pay him off.

Uncle Joe's mint balls and batchelors mushy peas aren't going to move the game forward.

Sky only want us when there no football and they are the only ones willing to pay. Maybe a sale to the NRL would get us moving forward.

If the NRL got involved it would become a franchise sport with no promotion or relegation. Cas would have to say goodbye to ever playing in the top flight again.

But we'd still survive as we always have.

No one will watch a 6 team sport and it'll die faster without us not to mention the other clubs that'll go.

Ultimately the sport can't afford to throw away is supporters in the hope of finding others from far flung places.

We might only be 8k on a good year but that's 50% more than Huddersfield on a great day. Same with KR. Wakey maybe similar aswell. With around 10k average from Wigan, wire, saints, Leeds and Catalans Cas aren't too far away.

I certainly wouldn't be one of those undervaluing our club but I firmly believe others, including many at RFL HQ, do.

Whether the top flight would survive without us or we without them is almost impossible to work out as we may well survive as a club but certainly not in the same capacity as today.

Similarly, SLE may well go belly up but the clubs are likely to survive under a different structure.

Strange as it may seem, I don't view it as a them and us scenario but I would certainly be looking at Cas Tigers and thinking what can we do to raise the profile of the game?

I’ve just read Rimmer’s interview in this week’s League Express. Two pages of waffle which say absolutely nothing!!

I watched the Super League show last night and the CEO of Hull KR (who are part of the working group) confirmed that they are looking at 'investment' rather than sponsorship or other 'traditional' funding streams.

Rimmer does remind me of the great Motown song by Edwin Starr (and others):-

"(Ralph, huh) Yeah!
(What is he good for?) Absolutely nothing, uhuh"
