Well the last Hull merger was when they got £1 million from merging with Gateshead the failed expansion project from so called guru Shane Richardson who is currently trying to recycle the same old crap,

Multiply that by 12, add in the inept RFL, the lamentable international competition.
Grass roots clubs struggling, participation down...........
Well, I do rather worry.

I remember the Hull and Huddersfield mergers and wondered why we did merge with both and pocket both of the one million pounds incentives.
The list, scope and depth of the ineptitude in the game it's a wonder it didn't fold years ago.

The taking of the Gateshead team who were doing well and growing the sport as was intended in the North East and giving it to Hull who had been trying for years to get out of the lower division but couldn't make it remains one of the biggest disgraces on the sport in recent times

Hull were in Super League for a few seasons before the merger with Gateshead.tigerfeat wrote: ↑23 Aug 2021, 06:57 The taking of the Gateshead team who were doing well and growing the sport as was intended in the North East and giving it to Hull who had been trying for years to get out of the lower division but couldn't make it remains one of the biggest disgraces on the sport in recent times

Doing my Ken bit here...
Hull FC's 1st season in SL was 1998.
They finished 9th of 12 with 8 wins 15 losses.
Gateshead's 1st and only season was 1999.
They finished 6th of 14 2 points behind us.
Hull finished 13th of 14 (relegation) and Huddersfield finished 14th.
Hull then merged with Gateshead and Hudds with Sheffield. The league was reduced to 12 teams and nobody was promoted or relegated. So 2 expansion clubs were lost to save 2 struggling traditional teams
Hull started the 2000 season with the majority of Gateshead's overseas players exempt from the quota and finished 7th.
1.25m was paid to each of the merged clubs, I'm not sure if that was compensation for the 2 clubs that disappeared or not.
Gateshead away was a great day out BTW.

I could have sworn Hull were in the lower division until they got promoted after getting the Gateshead team on a freebie ...mind you I struggle to remember what happened last month nowadays haSpanishtiger wrote: ↑23 Aug 2021, 11:49 Doing my Ken bit here...
