Re: Saints on Thursday
After watching them v catalans, I thought saints looked tired and sluggish.
Normally they would blow a weaker young team away.
We have to match their forwards and get over them.
I hope watts is back, we need our biggest pack out there.
We have to get it into our heads we can compete and beat them.
I sometimes think we have a mental block when we play them.
Head says saints.
Heart say, we have to get the monkey of our back one day.

Re: Saints on Thursday
Not a game we have to win, but I'd hope to see a performance off the back of a good win against Leeds, I'll be dissapointed if we lay down for them and let them roll us. Some big games coming up after this against teams around us, that are must win. I still hold on to a small hope of a play off push, just so that we have something to look forward to.

Re: Saints on Thursday
If we have a decent squad out again we are quite capable of competing with them. Definitely need Watts back as we need a decent size pack against them. The biggest thing going across there isn’t ability on the field it’s the mental block we seem to have going there.
The big question - is DP gonna send a full squad over or send a weakened one with an eye on more winnable games coming up? He certainly isn’t gonna want his winning run against Wakey breaking so I have horrible feeling he may throw the Saints game with Wakey at home next up.

Re: Saints on Thursday
I’m an eternal optimist, but we’re only going to make the 6 if we win nearly every game and the teams around us don’t get away with postponing the games that they are likely to lose.
We need Leeds and one of the Hull clubs to lose 11 games minimum and then lose a maximum of two but preferably only one of our own remaining games (and those include Saints and Catalans away). Even then %age will make a difference. IMO they should use the spare weeks from the postponement of the World Cup to unravel the fixture list a bit and possibly extend the playoffs

No more faffng around playing weakened sides, cas need to be playing full strength teams from now on. We have to get some consistency in the team.derbystiger wrote: ↑09 Aug 2021, 12:03 If we have a decent squad out again we are quite capable of competing with them. Re: Saints on Thursday
I realise that past performances should have no bearing on today’s results, BUT in the early 1980s Cas beat Saints at Knowsley Road in 4 successive seasons:-
8-5 in 1980/81
40-10 in 1981/82
24-23 in 1982/83
22-10 in 1983/84
Furthermore 10-8 in 1986/87
26-24 in 1989/90
29-16 in 1990/91 (our last win there, but 7 times in 11 meetings including a 14-14 draw in 1988/89)
It’s in Super League where we’ve failed to win with over 30 defeats although in 1998 we did draw 32-32. That sequence has to end sometime and after this year’s Cup performance which we arguably should have won there’s always hope. Warrington won there recently, and we’ve twice beaten the Wires this season, so why can’t Cas do likewise?

It’s all psychological, some players will have lost before we step on the field.
It’s all about self belief.
Every player as to have the same positive mentality to get over saints.
So we’ll see.

Re: Saints on Thursday
The simple fact is that every game played over there is one game closer to finally achieving a win. I'm not sure the win will be this week but...

Re: Saints on Thursday
Was at what would have been the last game at Knowsley Road which we needed to win to make the top 8 . We were winning with very little time left and they brought Cunningham back on and he crashed over for a last minute try.
I think that was a case of we couldn’t believe we were winning
There was a more recent one when we were well ahead and Huby got injured ( might have been 2014) and Saints won it with the last kick of the match from a touchline conversion. Hard for those things not to get into shared team consciousness.

Think you’re referring to the game on Easter Monday 2011, which was at Widnes. They scored the game-tying try with 9 seconds left and kicked the touch line conversion to winTamworth Tiger wrote: ↑10 Aug 2021, 11:36 There was a more recent one when we were well ahead and Huby got injured ( might have been 2014) and Saints won it with the last kick of the match from a touchline conversion. The one I’m thinking of was against Saints
Re: Saints on Thursday
The game at Widnes was against Saints in 2011. It was whilst their new ground was built.
