The coaching he has had at Leeds has not made him run fast, that was natural, however he's certainly been taught how to play rugby. Perhaos that was lacking when we had a look, hence he wasn't signed.

There are numerous examples of players in all sports being discarded or over looked by clubs only to make it big later on. Coaching plays a big part for sure.

Don't quite think you can really blame anyone on this.
Well Leeds must of seen something in him to sign him.

Like the dwarf comment

you have a point there . look at lee briers , he has never really impressed me in the past , but since andrew johns spent the last few games at warrington last year , briers has seemed to come alive , and it has to be something to do with john's arrival .

players have got there own unique way of improving and i guess that at leeds they seem to figure it out pretty quickly which is why they have such a great youth system .

IMO mate, Briers has always been good, always had talent. When he covered for Bobby Goulding at Saints prior to joining Warrington, he definately had something about him.

Since then though, smoking 40 a day and pretending to be Welsh have slowed his progress. ;-)

Players do improve with coaching and when they form partnerships with other players or find their place in a team. As for McGuire and Burrows, yeah Leeds saw something in them which means their scouting is better or perhaps with their resources, player roster at that time, could afford to take a risk on them. Other less fortunate clubs maybe could not do the same.
