Re: Wakefield on Friday
We need a proper CEO although jepson am sure will know that he's no fool he's getting the cotton wool over the eyes for me from Danny Wilson our director of rugby
Early days but again don't look good and a potential embarrassment at odsal looks likely

Re: Wakefield on Friday
I don't think yesterday is such a bad thing .
In the last 2 years we have played Huddersfield in our final 2 friendlies and won them well , expecting big things in the seasons ahead , only to finish 11th and 10th , perhaps due to a little complacency on the back of these 2 results ?
Yesterday could be the wake up call that we need for the season ahead and it gives Danny and Brett time to put things right , starting with Westy's testimonial next Sunday .
Steady improvement is what we need to see in the coming weeks .
With a very tough first 3 SL fixtures , we could well find ourselves 0-3 , but it's the improvement that is the key for me so that we are in a much better postion for the rest of the season .
We definitely need another prop though and a couple of more players to take us up to salary cap and strengthen the squad , but no need to panic just yet .

New season, but same suspects chatting same old sh!t!LeeThorpe88 wrote: ↑25 Jan 2025, 03:28 We're literally an embarrassment to super league should of kept London and kicked us out. But fair play to wakefield had to sign a whole new squad and still got them playing for better then us. Roll on KR can see it finishing 80-0 to them![]()

Re: Wakefield on Friday
No need to panic just yet, Wakey will go well this coming season and like all Powell coached sides will make a strong start to the season. Certainly we need additions and with a run of home games early on hopefully we can bring in a few before it is too late and we are stranded at the foot of the table.
Re: Wakefield on Friday
I think next week against Hull is now an important run out. We need a performance to give belief to not only the fans but the players as well that everything they are practising is correct. Both Hull & Wakey are expected to be in that bottom 4/5 position along with us. Two poor showings against them would really set the alarm bells going.5menofsteel wrote: ↑25 Jan 2025, 14:35 I don't think yesterday is such a bad thing .

Hull kr got beat by York..
Saints got beat by Salford.
Not sure what sort of teams they put out.
Couple of up sets there.

Re: Wakefield on Friday
Hull KR sent the back up squad. Only really Tanginoa of their first choice team went. Saints left out 7 or 8 of their starting 17, no Welsby, Walmsley, Percival, Clark, Lees etc.old cas lass wrote: ↑25 Jan 2025, 19:17 Hull kr got beat by York..

Can’t see the point. Main thing is for the coaches and players to learn from it and get it sorted.

I'll reserve judgement for now, but if we put in a similar performance against Hull, for Westys testimonial, then alarm bells will truly be ringing.

Re: Wakefield on Friday
The half back situation is a little concerning with McGuire feeling Windley is not ready yet and he somehow thought Westy was the answer. Surely a back up half with a bit of experience should have been an area of the squad that should have been sorted.
Re: Wakefield on Friday
We had a half decent half and let him go. There’s also another in Abdul on the market. Get him fit and he’d be a great pick up.Sharlotiger wrote: ↑26 Jan 2025, 14:34 The half back situation is a little concerning with McGuire feeling Windley is not ready yet and he somehow thought Westy was the answer. But he's not fit and can't get fit. Hence why he's been at so many clubs over the last couple of years.Martiger wrote: ↑26 Jan 2025, 15:14We had a half decent half and let him go. Re: Wakefield on Friday
I don't know if it's me or not, but I cannot see why everyone is excited about Danny Maguire. If he is so good, why did he not influence how we played last season, surely Lingard didn't have so much power that he overrode his ideas. What does Martin Jepson see in him? Why will it be any different? Did Lingard just not fit the image that Jepson wants to portray?
I know only a friendly the other day but it looks a bit like same old same old. Hope to be proved wrong.

Re: Wakefield on Friday
Think I saw somewhere that our preseason to 2017 consisted of defeats to Wakefield and Batley so we probably thought we were onto a hiding that season

Re: Wakefield on Friday
Time will tell. But not gona improve a great deal without a couple more signings, and halfback problem sorting.Aldinga Tiger wrote: ↑26 Jan 2025, 23:50 I don't know if it's me or not, but I cannot see why everyone is excited about Danny Maguire. Think he sees him as a massive name in the game and someone who will attract better players than Lingard will.Aldinga Tiger wrote: ↑26 Jan 2025, 23:50 I don't know if it's me or not, but I cannot see why everyone is excited about Danny Maguire. Obviously the players won’t be seen till 2026 as we had already signed the ones for this season by time he took over.
Re: Wakefield on Friday
Lingard was unlucky to get sacked given what he achieved with what he had ok he said some daft things at times I can understand why Jepson wanted Maguire in charge but just on what Lingard got out of the players he was unlucky to get the pushAldinga Tiger wrote: ↑26 Jan 2025, 23:50 I don't know if it's me or not, but I cannot see why everyone is excited about Danny Maguire.
