Thursday night games

Post by orrsome » 09 Dec 2024, 12:02

Personally I’m not keen on Thursday night games and I know a lot of people who feel the same way Attendances are obviously negatively affected as people struggle getting home from work in time, especially for away games and parents don’t allow kids to attend in term time due to getting home late.
So next season Cas have 6 of them!!!
Only Leigh have more with 7 and surprise, surprise
Wigan have just 1
Is this another example of the RFL favouring Wigan?????

Think certain clubs have conditions on fixtures set by there landlords when sharing with football and the RFL seem to bend over backwards to the requests.

I don’t mind Thursday games personally. Doesn’t mess with any weekend plans therefore keeping the missus happy!

I can only see 5 from sky listed fixtures (this may have changed )and 2 of those are away from home . With Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday options available to all clubs , you would expect 6.5 games on each of these days as an average , so 5 not too bad

Full breakdown - Home - Away - Total

Thursday 3-2 - 5
Friday 2-4 - 6
Saturday 4-4 - 8
Sunday 4-3 - 7 **

** Magic Weekend Fixture against Wakey on a Sunday and not included above

Thursday is the day with the least number of fixtures

It's more of a concern that we are forced to play so many home games at the beginning/middle of the season . Of our last 8 games , only 2 are at home (1 in the final 5!)

Just as a caveat and comparison to the above , Hull and Wigan who share their ground with football teams , have 8 out of their final 11 games and 7 out of 10 , respectively , at home , and at the business end of the season .

That has got to distort the table for the whole season, but the last 6 weeks are ridiculous. Fans who attend are IMO being treated with contempt. There ought to be a bigger disincentive in the grading system for clubs who might have shiny facilities but effectively have no facilities for a large chunk of the playing season.

By the way, just a rant. Nothing of course will happen.

I think it's a fair point , but with 0.25 points already lost for these teams for not being sole owners of their stadiums , I can't see any more penalties being added in the future.

Fair enough , although individual fixture list on sky sports shows 5 ,with 3 at home and 2 away . Nevertheless it's still the lowest 'day game' for Cas in 2025 . As you say it will probably affect attendances , but it will help viewing figures as Thursday Night games are the stand alone fixture of the week . Whether that will be enough to make a difference to our IMG Viewership score remains to be seen.
