Also, McManus was bleating about needing more central funding because clubs were finding it tough but saying he won’t compromise on player salaries. Well that’s OK obviously we need to reduce the number of top clubs to 10 or even better 6 and it will keep the top clubs in the money…. but wouldn’t they just use it on higher salaries for the ever reducing bank of available players?
The cap should be set at a limit the top flight clubs can afford , and in a way that improves competitiveness

Can you explain a bit more please?

Plenty of people manually change the cap each year and it saves. Also, isn't the cap already automated to stay flat?Tamworth Tiger wrote: ↑27 Sep 2024, 10:46 Why would they worry when any points deduction for breach would been done in a season convenient to them in terms of league position? Oh, and they can’t even be relegated now as they should have when they were caught out for blatant cheating

My post was referring to what actually happened when Cas were relegated instead of Wigan who were deducted 4 points for cheating the cap but had them deducted the following season when it was irrelevant. Same governing body as now.

Wigan made no attempt to hide it either . I remember them signing Stuart Fielden at the time for a ridiculous amout . We all knew that it would take them over the salary cap with other signings they had made , but they weren't bothered as they knew that they wouldn't be penalised until the following season.Tamworth Tiger wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 14:04Wow, didn’t even remember that, it was so long ago I sent it.Katler wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 07:38Plenty of people manually change the cap each year and it saves. Cas did threaten to take legal action the following season and then we seemed to drop the threat of legal action 'overnight' . The rumours at the time were that, with it being the season before franchises were handed , it would be in our best interests to drop the matter . We will never know for sure but we did get a franchise the next season . Would we have done had we proceeded with legal action ? Who knows ?

Indeed. It’s not a great way to do business though.
It set us back years and possibly, but for the inspired appointment of Powell, permanently.
