Tony Smith to leave Hull KR

Post by Cas Cohen » 20 Apr 2022, 12:22

Tony Smith has just announced he is leaving Hull KR at the end of the season. He's not going to Leeds but says he will continue coaching. He has done a brilliant job there... It will be interesting to see where he ends up.

That’s a bit of a shock.
He’s just got a very good squad together and got them playing.
To walk away from that seems strange.
I wonder if there’s some unrest in the club.

I would imagine there are family challenges for him too, dragging your wife and family around in professional sport for 30+ years must take it's toll. More so in the UK in RL than NRL or Football in that the rewards are not life changing for most.

Done a lot in the British game to be fair, can't be many who have an axe to grind other than wish him well.

I'm certainly surprised by the decision but he has earned the right to pick and choose his career.

Already seen rumours of his replacement but they could be big boots to fill if KR continue the way they've started.

Loads of rumours.
I’ve seen siebauld (sp)to HKR.
Rohan smith to Leeds.
Also this.

I dont understand the need to announce it, the club should know and be given the opportunity to start looking for a replacement but i dont see whats to be gained by announcing it to fans just yet.

I think particularly in RL, someone can't pass gas in a Costa without someone guessing what they had for lunch.
Very few well kept secrets/gentlemen's agreements. At least when you announce it, you have control of the narrative.

Perhaps DP started a new trend of announcing departures way in advance to allow the recruitment process to begin in earnest?

I can't be the only one who thinks TS will still end up at Leeds? He'll either be brought in to help Rohan or replace him.

Sure Mr Agar is the outlier with TS available and Rohan on his way.

Agree. At best, the 2 news pieces today add up to a very strange coincidence.

Just read this - https://www.seriousaboutrl.com/rohan-sm ... ton-52141/

I think Rohan sounds a lot like his Uncle Tony. I read that article in Tony's voice
