if the lads taking the field were 1-13 subs 14-17 that would suit me fine let them take the shirt and retain it

They like to reveal them at the annual player sponsors evening which is always in January, where the players sponsor gets to present the playing shirt to their player. Unfortunately due to covid the evening has been postponed and I believe they will be doing it online as they did last year.

Isn't the York game on Sunday? Surely numbers will be picked before then

Yeah they could do but it makes more sense to me to just name them before. I don't get why we always leave it so late, they really don't matter that much at the end of the day

As Daytona said, they make a night of it with the sponsors handing the shirts to the players. Good way to make the sponsors feel more involved in my eyes

I would so much like to see all games played with a team of 1 to 17 shirts like they were many years ago. Plus make it part of the game that scrums are set with numbers 1 to 6 with props, hookers etc all in their positions.

A huge selling point for our club with sponsors but means we miss out on printing shirts with names & numbers at the part of the season where we need money coming in the most.

I think we need to find a more productive solution. Release the numbers so we can sell printed shirts & then run the presentation night as a ceremonial event, which is already is to a degree. Or, just move presentation night earlier.

We have to be quicker getting shirts out. The top teams have them on sale almost as soon as the season ends.

Totally agree. Kids would love a shirt on Xmas morning with their favourite players name and number on the back. They can still have a sponsor presentation night just make it a lot earlier than it normally is.Cas missing a trick with merchandise again.

The presentation is normally near the start of the season. I suppose that's how long it takes to get in sponsors etc..

Also if contacts end in December, you would have to wait till you get your players signed and also from down under.

Numbers are great, if you watched some of the arsenal v notts forest football match, arsenal wore all white shirts and numbers. I'm surprised they allowed it, you couldn't make out who the players were. A bit like a muddy boxing Day fixture at Batley.

There’s a financial and practical side to this too.
Using squad numbers, the club needs far fewer playing shirts as a player will wear the same size all season (more or less),
If we went back to ‘numbers by position’ you would need each number printed up in a variety of sizes. As an example, Mahe Fonua is going to need a different size shirt to Greg Eden and both will need a different size to Jason Qareqare, so if they all played a game on the left wing you’d need a number 5 shirt in multiple different sizes, increasing costs.

I don’t think we have offered ‘official’ shirt printing for a few seasons now anyway.

Regarding the squad, it's not until you put it on paper and then you realise you can make 2 pretty strong 13's out of it, with a few more missing from it i.e Claire, Hepi etc

Evalds
Faraimo
Turner
Mamo
Feki
Trueman
Richardson
Watts
McShane
Massey
Edwards
Lawler
Westerman

Eden
Qareqare
Blair
Fonua
Olpherts
O’Brien
McClelland
Smith
O’Neill
Matagi
Sutcliffe
Griffin
Milner

Jordan Turner won’t feature this week but might next week depending on a few factors.
“Having said that, I’ve seen enough of Jordan to know it won’t affect my selection round one.”

My guess is he's keeping his wing spot with Faraimo on the other side, Fonua and Mamo centres

Not impressed if Eden doesn’t start on the left wing.

Best winger at the club by a county mile. What is the issue ?

Yeah I thought our left edge of Eden and Turner was the best it had looked for a while, shame it was only for a short period. Can't see Fonua, Mamo or Faraimo not getting a place tho and we still don't really know the extent of Eden's hamstring problems
