All joking aside, without the referees we don’t have a game. Losing experienced referees like Rob leave the door open for even more incompetent fools like Tom Grant and Marcus Griffiths to have more elite games.

The thing with refs and linos is that when they are performing well we don't notice them, so they get no praise.

The only thing I've ever wanted from an official is that they play to the rules and it's fair. I've seen us penalised for being offside 5 times in a row and the other team never pinged. Especially when the other team were only onside once and that was for one kick off! If they are going to choose something to be fineky about then look both ways.

I will always remember Robert Hicks for pulling Cas for offside at the kick-off v Leeds in semi -final at Doncaster. I have watched at least a couple of hundred and more games since and never once seen a team penalised straight from kick-off. Rob Hicks you will be remembered by me for that reason alone, and you were only a touch judge that day.

Isn't this a case of no longer being a full-time match official? If so, it means he may still pop up every now and then to throw a span......officiate in some role

I wouldn’t be a ref in today’s world of the constant barrage of social media abuse and threats from anonymous half-wits. I did a bit of reffing before the innovation of the internet and the face to face abuse was bad enough!

If we had a system like they do down under where they check every try while the team are celebrating scoring and can make the right decision even if the refs given a try it would be a big help
Then it wouldn't matter if refs like Child who's so certain he can't be wrong gives a try like in the Cas HKR match last season with the ball bouncing around hands everywhere and he decides not to look at the screen
