John kear and Matty crowther

Post by Railway end man 2021 » 05 Jun 2021, 22:18

Not sure if this is 100% but heard both have gave some advise to our players today and in the week with permission from Daryll on what the challange cup means to them and there experiences of winning with CAS/sheffield ,being underdogs.culture of the club

If true... they free in July for the big dance .... think it worked

Also mark Aston ,John Joyner recorded messages ,all CAS lads wishing the club well sharing there stories with CAS or other clubs

Yeah I watched it when I got back excellent from the BBC team
I thought Kevin Brown from the side line was very good gave good insights like when he said hed noticed every time Daz Clark got the ball there was a call from the Cas players to alert them of danger and stop him

if it was true about kear he wouldn't have shut up about it and would have being telling us how he played a big part in our victory.

Always been a big fan of Matt Newsum on commentary. Does a lot of work for BBC Radio Leeds for their radio coverage & does stuff on Our League app (did the KR/Cas CC game if I remember correctly).

Also though Noble was good on commentary, sounds like a bloke who loves rugby getting to talk about rugby. Although it's easier to listen to knowing we win!

Don't think he said owt regarding tatics just shared experiences on of his big accasions with CAS probably 86 hull and Sheffield probably while he had a bit of time off after his BBC commitments

he has the club at heart met him once said he still supports CAS and that it's is boyhood club think his dad was involved with the club to if he's not commentating on the day he will probably be in crowd somewhere tapping his fingers

Strange about how views are formed, I felt like he was practically ready to propose to Widdop and Austin for the first 20 minutes and felt the entire opposite.

Either way, just checked the result and I don't care!

he only does that when he knows the camera's are on him ;) fairly sure when he was still at school he used to operate the old score board on railway end.

Yes he did 100% operate the scoreboard at Cas as I was at school with him and know this as a true fact. He was a very fast and nippy rugby player at school (where RU was the rugby....boo !!!)

He is Cas through and through .... his dad ran a Coal Delivery company and he lived only 2 or 3 streets away from Cas's rugby ground off Wheldon Lane !

I have his book at home so can answer some of the stuff about JK.

His dad was Herbert Kear, coal delivery man, who played a few games at full back for Cas 1st team

He did do the scoreboard with his older brother David.

He says the drumming is involuntary and generally happens when under stress.

He was coach of a school team in South Milford. (JK was deputy head. Athelstone I think the school is called)

He says that his dream job would be coach of Cas, and when he's no longer involved in rugby he'll be back at Cas as a ST holder.

It was Athelstan County Primary, as it was called then, at Sherburn In Elmet - he was my teacher/coach and the one who first took my best mate and me to a game. I have Mr Kear to thank for me being on the Cas rollercoaster!

You're obviously right derbys, how I managed to mix up South Milford and Sherburn is beyond me. Must be something to do with my age!!!
