Cas joint 4th to win grand finsl
So Sky bet have Cas joint 4th to win the Grand final with plenty of other teams at 12/1. Hope we can have a season free from injuries this Year to be honest. If the starting 17 stay fit we can beat any team on the day.
Re: Cas joint 4th to win grand finsl
for me, we do look to have a stronger squad but as you say keeping players fit is the key to winning trophies with any luck at all we will not suffer the amount we have done over the last couple of years

Re: Cas joint 4th to win grand finsl
We're due a season with the usual injuries instead of the catastrophic injury list of the past couple of seasons.

Is we can keep Evalds, Trueman, Richardson, McShane and Watts fit for most of the year, I think we have a decent chance.

Squad not big enough in the forwards, and ageing squad. Mid table at best

You don’t need a pack full of international forwards - that’s been proven year after year. Teams who win grand finals have a couple of top forwards and others who are reliable and consistent.True-supporter wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 23:24 Squad not big enough in the forwards, and ageing squad. Successful teams have their best players in the spine at full-back, half backs and hooker. We have Evalds, Trueman, Richardson and McShane, with O’Brien who can slot into three of those positions if needed. That spine gives us a chance of competing, but whether we can catch the likes of Wigan and Saints I’m not too sure.
I think we’re a bit behind the spine of French/Hastings/Field/Powell at Wigan (though I don’t think Powell is that good) and Coote/Lomax/Fages/Roby at Saints.

Need the forwards to get us on the front foot to make room/space for the likes of macca, Evalds, trueman and Richardson to work their magic.nottinghamtiger wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 23:51You don’t need a pack full of international forwards - that’s been proven year after year. I generally don’t do predictions cos I can’t see into the future.
So I’ve no idea where any team will finish.
All I can say is, Wigan saints possibly Leeds will be in the top 5.
But who knows.

I’m not convinced that’s true in the modern game. It seems to be the full-back and wingers who get the team in the front foot rather than the middles.old cas lass wrote: ↑28 Dec 2020, 00:06Need the forwards to get us on the front foot to make room/space for the likes of macca, Evalds, trueman and Richardson to work their magic.nottinghamtiger wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 23:51You don’t need a pack full of international forwards - that’s been proven year after year. The number of very average forwards with multiple grand final and cup wins shows that you don’t need a group of top players - just players who are low on errors and do the simple things consistently.
The game these days is all about the spine. You can put average players around them, but if you have the best four players in those pivotal positions then you stand a chance of winning trophies.

I'm not too sure where we'll finish this season. Some clubs are building slowly but look good on paper. As stated if we can have some luck on the injury front we'll give it a go.coyf

Think Cas need to concentrate on some set moves within the opposition 20. We've been camped on other teams try lines a lot and come away with no points. keep the penalty count low aswell as you dont need good forwards to get you up the field when Cas give away a stupid penalty and you can kick yourself up the field.

I think 4th favourites is somewhat fair.
Seeing alot of Cas fans getting nervous regarding other teams signings. But I think we have a well settled team that just needed a few tweeks. Some teams have gone all out and spent some silly money in a climate that is risky.

I'd rarther have Cas squad than most others but it all depends on keeping down the injurys that have cost us dear last three year
The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have

I still think we’ve made the best signing in Niall Evalds.heritage1926 wrote: ↑28 Dec 2020, 10:54 I think 4th favourites is somewhat fair.

What's your thoughts on Evalds deal if it's only 1 Year as reported before.

Reported from who? Dave from the glass blower said it and people believed it. Niall will have signed a multi year deal at cas but due to finances and uncertainty in the tv deal cas are playing safe and only handing out one year deals. On the other hand cas have made a gentleman’s agreement so that Niall and other players do sign for us for 2022 and beyond.westerbeast73 wrote: ↑28 Dec 2020, 16:58 What's your thoughts on Evalds deal if it's only 1 Year as reported before.
Re: Cas joint 4th to win grand finsl
Reported by the club when they announced the deal.
If true, this should’ve been announced as it’ll show on the cap. A multi year contract is averaged out over the length of the contract, so clubs don’t sign players cheap for a few years then release them when the cost goes up (think Fielden and his move to Wigan in 2006).
Is this fact?MrRugby123 wrote: ↑28 Dec 2020, 17:26 Cas have made a gentleman’s agreement so that Niall and other players do sign for us for 2022 and beyond.

My understanding is that this is salary-cap related.Fumper27 wrote: ↑28 Dec 2020, 18:39Reported by the club when they announced the deal.

If he signs a one-year deal, that is all that count in the cap for 2021 regardless of whether he signs a new contract for 2022 and possibly beyond. By giving him a 12 month contract, Cas can increase his wage in 2022 but not have that weighted towards the cap for 2021.
What I don’t really get is why we need to do that, given the players who have left this year. You’d think that having lost higher earners such as Moors and McMeeken, we shouldn’t need to fudge the cap in such a way.
Comments from Jon Wells and Powell suggested they agreement is for more than a single season.
But it’s not good for quelling rumours of him going to St Helens/Huddersfield/NRL etc. It pretty much starts rumours as soon as the season starts.

Re: Cas joint 4th to win grand finsl
It only takes us to have a lousy year 2021.
Evalds may think why am I bothering here at cas when I’m oni on a one year deal and I could walk into a too 4 team.
Wouldn’t take much to turn his head.

Saints,Wigan & Warrington should be top 3 in the 2021 regular season's finishing positions.westerbeast73 wrote: ↑27 Dec 2020, 17:34 So Sky bet have Cas joint 4th to win the Grand final with plenty of other teams at 12/1. We are joint 4th with 4 other sides
Catalans
Giants
Hull FC
Rhinos
So if the bookies are correct then we will finish between 4th and 8th but above
Hull KR
Salford
Trinity and
Leigh
IMO Dragons,Giants,Hull FC and Rhinos will all finish above us (although not in that particular order)
Hope i'm wrong though, but 2021 is certainly a big season for us and if the full season is played out to the full and uninterrupted then it will show us where we are as a club.
Realistically speaking, where is the line in the sand for us in the posters opinions on here as to what finishing position is deemed a successful one?
