Challenge Cup Final

Post by casjunction » 28 Sep 2020, 19:49

Hardly news or surprising but playing the Final at Wembley must incur more cost than playing at a neutral venue in the North of England.
May seem rather petty but surely prudence should be the order of the day.
I know the argument of the occasion but tge cost of travel and venue hire hardly seems sensible same will apply for tbe Grand Final although the travel would be less.
At least using a rugby-league venue keeps the money in house.

It is a weird one. Are we contractually bound by using Wembley? If so, if we don't play it there is there a break clause cost.

Can hospitality still be sold for groups of six in each box? If so, is that part of the reason? No idea on the rules on this any more.

Also, it is the one time we can show the sport to London media on their doorstep. Also, think it is a good occasion for players to be able to play there - may be the only time they get chance. Seems unfair to take it away.

I understand your views.
But it is hard to plead poverty and waste cash.
As for the media angle it's hardly been a catalyst for establishing the game in the capital.
Would be interesting to see a financial justification.
Or is it a swan song.

Should be played at Odsal, the RFL own the lease.

There may be some contractual reasons, I have no idea, but whilst agree it may be a waste of money, it is one of the prestige games of the year and should be used to showcase out great game. Playing it at Odsal, , IMO, doesn't do that.

In which case we need a large, prestigious stadia, similar to Old Trafford, Anfield, St James Park, etc.

As such, where ever it is played will incur costs, maybe to a lesser degree but will cost nonetheless.

You see with teams this week resting all there best players even tho there not certain to get into the top four how important teams value the C.C over the grand final
Maybe if we'd done the same we'd still be in the comp but thats water under the bridge now

Bad luck for Salford looks like they will have a number of players missing

It’s a joke anyway. Both teams have only had to win two games to make the final.
Whoever wins has a massive asterisk next to their name; the only team ever to win the cup after playing only three games in the competition.

Nah. There’s not much to celebrate about winning a competition that is three-games long. I certainly wouldn’t be celebrating making the final.

It would Have to be called off if Wigan had got there. After all they have had 3 back room staff with positive Covid test results!🙄
Just shows the difference in ethics between teams like Salford and Wigan.
Come on Salford.......

York Knights new stadium is not usable yet. The final safety checks etc have been delayed due to Covid. The build is complete and all finished, but not signed of yet by Health & Safety. Crowds are not allowed, and they have to have a test to see if all is ok with a crowd in, and at the moment they can not do that.

To be fair, the jackknife made no mention of having fans. He said sell cardboard cut outs :)

Another delay announced today. It will be January now at the earliest before the ground is ready - drainage problems now.

After that is sorted, they still have all the signing off protocols etc to do, so it probably will be April before it is ready. York`s new stadium is taking almost as long as Cas`s :D

I’m back after a short break....

Come on Salford. Not because they’re playing Leeds - at all - I just admire the way Ian Watson coaches and shuffles his cards when losing a few high quality players and always comes up with an inspired signing or change in patterns of play to suit what he has.

Not only that, he reminds me very much of a younger version of Daryl. Maybe a better version, we shall see over the next couple of seasons.

It’s good Niall brings experience of playing in finals to us too, win or lose.

Might have a sneaky bet on Salford today.....
