Re: McMeekan
5k is £416.67 a month or 96.15 a week.
Is 5k worth upping your family, to play in France.
Especially with a small baby.
Seems a strange one.

Before tax.
But he could have been offered 30k more; it’s all speculation.

Re: McMeekan
If he was going to develop even more under Powell then surely he would have done so by now, maybe a change of clubs is just what Mike needs to get his career back on track.nottinghamtiger wrote: ↑23 Jun 2020, 19:19The thing is that whilst that is true of our many of that 2017 team, most of them were at an age where they should have been at their peak that year. In his pomp he is a real handful.
Admittedly he has not recaptured his 2017 form but this could be said of quite a few.
The extra cash and the South of France what's not to like.
Good Luck to the lad if he goes but as other people have pointed out we are not short of options.
If he thinks he’s going to develop more under McBanana than under Powell, then he’s crazy. But I guess money talks, and RL players only get a handful of chances to negotiate contracts during their career.

Or maybe he is as good as he’s going to get and he looked better than he is in 2017 when we were dominating games.Sharlotiger wrote: ↑23 Jun 2020, 21:12If he was going to develop even more under Powell then surely he would have done so by now, maybe a change of clubs is just what Mike needs to get his career back on track.nottinghamtiger wrote: ↑23 Jun 2020, 19:19The thing is that whilst that is true of our many of that 2017 team, most of them were at an age where they should have been at their peak that year. I can’t think of many players who have left Cas in the Powell era and gone on to improve.

Re: McMeekan
South of France and more money - I'd be gone in a flash. Fair play to him if he's gone, can't really argue with that.
Can't see him developing anymore under McNamara.
Maybe MM has been told he's not guaranteed a starting shirt for us, we do have a wealth of very good second rowers.

Re: McMeekan
How well he does depends on how well Catalans are doing if there playing well.and look like they could win a trophy my guess is he will be playing very well.
I thought certain he would go given the other options we have and the fact he was out of contract ,we need another good prop to play with Wattsy if we've prioritised that then we will be a stronger team

Mike is an excellent player and automatic starter WHEN FIT AND IN FORM. Last two seasons he has been unpredictable, certainly not always in my starting 13.
Best wishes if he's moving on.
If he stays he needs to get his finger out, give 100% every game and stay focused.
Some games he looks like hes 'Away with the faries'.

Re: McMeekan
My frustration with him has always been that he doesn’t seem interested until we are in possession in the opposition’s 20m. He barely ever takes a carry in our own half. He’s a real ‘edge’ player, but sometimes it’s like playing with two centres on that right-hand side.stevieblunder wrote: ↑24 Jun 2020, 08:42 Mike is an excellent player and automatic starter WHEN FIT AND IN FORM. The best word I’ve seen to sum up Mike is when he was called Princess.
Let’s say he’s on 80k here and wants 120k now and Catalans have matched his requirements.
It’s 120/40k more we’ve got to spend on the cap. That could be used to bring In a world class working second rower and a solid extra man.
If it were announced we’d secured josh jones as a replacement or someone just as good, I know who I’d take.

Re: McMeekan
I’d take Matt Whitley from Catalan!
Re: McMeekan
The fact that the club are facing a 250k funding deficit who’s to say he will be placed. They may simply remove his salary as part of cost cutting and squad reduction.

Re: McMeekan
Regarding carries in his own half, they always use him rather than a Prop for the first drive from a kick off if the ball is kicked to the right of our defence.

He's not officially gone yet and the knives are out.
Perhaps his departure will be announced just after we announce Evalds' signing. Mind you, Catalans aren't as shy of announcements as Cas are.

Re: McMeekan
We talking about 2017, At the end of the day he is just one man. The problem as been not having a regular full back, which as effected are attack, and players like mcmeeken require gaps and one to one situation. And l feel if we get a good full back is game will come back. He will do well at catalans because of players like tomkins.

Everybody's a good player till they leave Cas then there crap who can't get on with Powell and have a bad attitudeFlat Capper wrote: ↑24 Jun 2020, 12:17 He's not officially gone yet and the knives are out.

I think many people have been questioning his place for the last two seasons.tigerfeat wrote: ↑24 Jun 2020, 12:42Everybody's a good player till they leave Cas then there crap who can't get on with Powell and have a bad attitudeFlat Capper wrote: ↑24 Jun 2020, 12:17 He's not officially gone yet and the knives are out.

It’s one thing being out-of-form, but I don’t think it should last two years.
I suspect what’s happened is that we gave him a high contract in 2017 when he was the best back-rower in the league and an England international. His performances in 2018 and 2019 probably don’t warrant continuing that contract, let alone improving it.
I’m confident that we can get someone better for the same money, maybe not to play in his position (we have plenty of competition for places there), but someone who will improve the team overall (like another top quality prop).

Re: McMeekan
If we use his money to get a starting prop I will be happy with that. For a bloke his size he should be knocking people on their backsides. Too many times you see him tackled getting up and not looking happy that he's been put on his backside. We've loads of cover for 2nd row so glad Powell as decided to use his wage for something else. Even when he was not playing well he was always a starting 2nd row which was frustrating for the fans ?????
