No idea ...hope it's the guy that did that the Wigan game never seen him ref before that game I don't think ,but you didn't really notice him always good sign of a good ref for me
Unlike one or two I can think of

That's the problem with good reffing. You simply don't notice they are there and doing a grand job. Which is odd considering it's the ref we've all payed to watch......
To finish last in the Tour de France, first you must finish.

Hicks out with a calf strain. It was at the bottom of one of the press releases. Obviously didn't want people assuming he was suspended as well.

what a thankless job refereeing is the abuse they get sometime even when reffing under 10S is unbelievable we moan and groan about them but without them however good or bad we see them without them we have no game

I admire their strength of character. I once reffed a Cas v Hull schools match (under 12) at Glasshoughton, with the Hull parents along one touch and the Cas ones along the other. The abuse I got really unsettled me, and that was under the umbrella of education!
Wouldn’t do it again for a gold pig.

its a lot harder than it looks. you have to pass a refs/rules test as part of your coaching papers but its only a written test. or was back in the day. i realised how much different it was when standing in for a no show ref. you can't think for a minute what the answer is your decision has to be in a split second.

Agree. Unfortunately, like all key areas of our game, the responsibility lies with the governing body.

It’s simple:
- pay them the correct (and attractive/competitive) salary or match fee
- train them correctly
- have a large enough pool of officials
- support them and their welfare
- hold them accountable
- have a succession plan
- have a clear set of simple rules that are easily applied

Focus on the above as opposed to plastic expansion plans into North America

Agree with most of the above, but the one -Train them correctly- sorry but I don't think anyone in the RL hierarchy would be able to give a strong definition of the Laws of the game.
The other one is down to players cheating i.e winning penalties by letting the ball loose when tackled by two or more defenders and saying it was ripped out, some have made it into a fine art.

Pressumably he can sit in the TV production waggon as the Video Ref though?

This who I thought we would get for Friday once Thaler wasn’t available.

Not the best referee so we need to play so he doesn’t have to be involved spoiling the flow of the game.
