No sooner had she said it one of the commentary team said similar.
Not a great advert for the game

They count all season ticket holders if they turn up or not must have counted future season ticket holders as well last night

Re: Totonto and the Salary Cap
Makes you wonder what will happen to Toronto if they go down. Think bookies have them at almost evens for relegation.
Re: Totonto and the Salary Cap
A lot are saying it wasn't well thought out and blaming the RL for never learning the lessons but in fairness to them they didn't just throw them into super league they made them build through the championship the couldn't have expected them to turn up with a squad of only 22-23 players to play in SL
Whether the RL should have been thinking about trying to get a team in Canada into a European super league in the first place is another question

Re: Totonto and the Salary Cap
But they did allow the championship teams to operate a salary cap the same as the SL which basically lead to Leighs demise and Toronto being almost certs for promotion each year
Re: Totonto and the Salary Cap
Phil Clarke said us the fans dont get a vote on whether clubs help Toronto
Toronto are now allowed to sign a Canadian born player under the age of 21 without it counting on the cap id personally say they can sign any Canadian player of any age that has never played professional rugby league or rugby union without that players wage counting on the cap.
This would force them to look at local talent rather than just sign aging journeymen.

I've already aired some of my views on this but, put simply, it's a gimmick that causes the image of our sport equal amounts of bruising and polishing.
It won't last as the maths just don't add up.

Re: Totonto and the Salary Cap
Have to say the logistics of both Wolf Pack and Catalan do not make commercial sense at club level.
Little income from travelling supporters.
I know the argument about not relying on away fans but l would imagine the accountant factors them into their projections.
The cost for the club for the away fixture most be disproportionately high.
If it's coming from some central pot that's money which could help grass root clubs.
However l imagine Sky set the agenda either openly or otherwise thinking of advertising revenue.
It is also a nonsense playing some of their home fixtures away.
As it give the team being gifted an additional home advantage.
It's bad enough with loop fixture.
Gosh do we make a simple game difficult.
I can well imagine it being difficult to sell to a new audience.
It will be interesting to see the impact on their gates if they continue to lose every week.
Its easy to support a winning team.

Re: Totonto and the Salary Cap
Spot on in both your posts casjunction.
I get plenty of conversations going about RL with the people I work with in the south. The reaction is generally the same - they enjoy the games but cannot understand the structure of the fixtures. Even the term "Super League" confuses them. When I try and impartially explain the Toronto gig they just laugh and shake their heads.

Strong rumour that they will sign Gigot, go over the salary cap and then challenge the cap as illegal. Hope the RFL are ready to stand their ground......
Re: Totonto and the Salary Cap
Given it’s a “live cap”, they shouldn’t be able to go over their limit.nottinghamtiger wrote: ↑18 Feb 2020, 22:23 Strong rumour that they will sign Gigot, go over the salary cap and then challenge the cap as illegal. Hope the RFL are ready to stand their ground......

Re: Totonto and the Salary Cap
The RFL can refuse to register him as a Toronto player, which if played would mean he's played illegally, which could have more ramifications for them including a) points deductions and b) removing their membership.
They signed up as a member of the RFL and to abide by laws. My thought is that they may pay their dual reg team to sign him and then dual reg him.

Re: Totonto and the Salary Cap
It’s an interesting one. Does being in breach of operational rules mean the RFL can take pre-emptive action by refusing to register the player? That’s not something that they have done previously, even though other clubs have breached the cap (admittedly unbeknown to the RFL beforehand or at the time).HuddsTigers wrote: ↑18 Feb 2020, 23:23 The RFL can refuse to register him as a Toronto player, which if played would mean he's played illegally, which could have more ramifications for them including a) points deductions and b) removing their membership.

Re: Totonto and the Salary Cap
The argument was that Toronto got into Super League on merit by winning promotion.
As opposed to parachuted into Super League.
On attaining promotion, they l presume were appraised of the rules of the competition and agreed to them and made then super duper headline grabbing signing of SBW.
If they now receive a dispensation it makes yet another mockery of our fine sport.
If the are relegated will it damage the sport irreparably?
If they survive by giving exemptions will it be the catalyst the game needs to prosper?
The answer is no on both counts.
The problem starts at the top.
Weak, unimaginative and pompous leadership.
How such a great sport can be administered by such buffoons is one of lifes mysteries.
I know why don't we have a franchise framework to decide who should be relegated based on nothing to do with success on the pitch.
Oh wait a minute!
