To be fair, until anything is official he has to be part of the plans

I’d stick with him as a back up half personally. He can do a job and we won’t get anyone better as a back up player unless there is a young kid from the 19s going to burst on the scene. (Which there isn’t)
I agree, we need a halfback coming through.
We have had half backs come through the club over the years, Brierly, Reynolds, McLelland are a couple that come to mind, but unfortunately, the lack of a reserves and strong competition, meant they had to look elsewhere.
And they've not been good enough. None of them would be our 3rd choice at the moment.
A lack of reserve grade rugby killed Reynold's and McLelland's chances with us, they had to be ready after the 18's season finished and neither were. Brierly was always the top performer for our academy back in the day, the one everyone used to rave about, but never got the chance to go any further with it, not many would of got an opportunity with Rangi in the side.

Hopefully now the reserves are back, a few more half backs come through over the years. something tells me Trueman will be in a Wigan shirt in a few years time.
That would be unacceptable.
We have the marquee rule should we need or wish to use it if he improves out of sight.

Truey isn't a cas lad, so would be expected not to have his heart rule his head. So loyalty isn't a given.

If he went anywhere, then oz is the place for the money and the lifestyle. If we can keep him under contract at we at least get a fee in the future.

How long is he under contract and what is his age. I think he’ll stay with us until at least 24.

Can’t think of many top rated Cas lads who have let their heart rule their heads in recent years, e.g. Clark, Westerman, Shenton, Orr, Huby although some of them had good reasons
I’m possibly wrong about Milner if it wasn’t just
agents games, and Watts this year but he’s already had many years elsewhere. Holmes is a one club man who has made the international squad. Have I missed anyone?

Westerman and Clark didn't want to go but one paid for the planning permission for the not built in ground near xscape and one staved off administration.
Shenton and Orr needed a new challenge and got a higher wage.
Huby fell out with the club over a testimonial, so was said.

Some would happily spend their entire careers at Cas but sportsmen tend to be competitive and if Cas aren't, some will move on.

I'm sure watts and truey will receive offers over the next year or 2, though I'd suggest it'd be easier to keep watts who has seen it at other clubs and might prefer to stay close to his family.

Also looking at the stick some give massey, if he could play elsewhere on more money and away from his detractors he might be tempted.

Anyone who thinks there's such a thing as loyalty in modern sports needs to give their heads a wobble.

Players careers are short and they'll persue the best money and working conditions they can.

That means that a player, any player, will sign for any club that offers:

1. The best money.
2. The best facilities and coaches.
3. The best chance at trophies.
4. The best chance to earn an even bigger contract in future.

Players may well accept less money short term if they know that it'll put them on the map in future, or they'll have access to coaching and facilities that mean they'll be looked after and enjoy going to work.

But ultimately loyalty to a badge? Not a chance. Badges don't put food on tables.

Right now players joining Cas are joining a team with excellent coaches, and a strong chance that playing well will be rewarded with bigger contracts, either here or elsewhere.

To ensure that talent continues to want to come to Castleford, we need better facilities and to mount serious challenges for trophies in coming years.

Relying on the loyalty of local boys won't cut it.

Absolutely and that’s how it should be for guys with short careers than can end abruptly ( e.g. Sam Burgess) and many with not a lot of prospects when they finish.

players will always move on the pay being the main attraction, these lads have to plan for when their playing days are over, in the 70S + 80S running a pub seamed to be there main occupation, when playing days are over. now some have financial advisers who look after their interests property is were some have put their money into. a thing the club can do is keep an eye on the backroom staff and make sure every one from top to bottom are earning the salary they are paid

Spot on.

We have all the ducks lined up apart from the facilities, which is due to be addressed when we move to the new ground. Unfortunately we can't do the facilities until the new ground is up and running.

Players can see a reason for coming to Cas, a few have got international chances because of our club. Gale was the obvious one, championship player to shoe in 7 for his country and man of steel. ( I know it takes him to work hard and him to buy into it but he wouldn't have done it with Bradford or London)

Leeds used to have a rigid pay structure as they had the best facilities and would be fighting for every bit of silverware. However they've smashed the pay structure that much they broke the cap and have 2 marquee players and at least gale on big money. They are panick signing and paying fees for players.

Love Rugby League are just forum surfers, if I read in their column it was dark outside, I'd still go and check. Lazy journalism with no substance to most of there articles.

Was Ellis at training this week. Haven't seen all the photos. That's always a nod towards wants happening especially when it only 2 long term injured, junior and fozzie are there.
