Shane Richardson plan for British RL

Post by tykeneil » 13 Jul 2021, 17:05

Just seen the article on Love RL about Shane Richardson's paper for revamp British RL

Same old, same old with big clubs, development areas + teams etc

WHY do the RL not take account on what the fans want to watch on the PITCH in front of them.

Big plans, big cash, big drain pipe

See a very different article on there yesterday entitled. ‘Rugby League needs to start listening to its fans’

Am I right in thinking that Richardson was full of turning Gateshead into a Super Club and then split £1 million with Hull by ‘merging’ the two clubs?
Wonder what his cut was?

Just found an interesting 1999 article in the Independent about Richardson leading Gateshead to ‘conquer the North East’ on a day when Cas spoiled the party by beating them 18-8
He had his chance, got it wrong but made money out of it anyway.
It’s bad enough the game being led by snake oil salesmen but it beggars belief when we go back to them for a bigger bottle.

Didn't he end up at the merged Hull Gateshead club? So if guess all of it.

Absolutely. Particularly as he failed first time round in the North East when, if anything the game had a higher profile

I genuinely cannot see what these so called 'experts' are trying to achieve.

We have a damn good sport that is the be all and end all of many local communities. We live and breathe the game.

For me the RFL need to accept this and build on these solid foundations, create a spectacle that consists of bitterly fought rivalries.

All these expansion proposals are akin to building a conservatory on a house where the roof is caving in. Repair the roof, make the building strong and then look to stick a fancy bit of stuff on it.

Correct but those idiots that control RL here will think it’s a great idea because they haven’t the brains to come up with anything else and they won’t admit they have been getting it wrong for over 40 years sack the lot before they destroy rugby in this country

There’s far too much common sense on here today.

Surely this man can't be taken seriously, he doesn't know our game, our culture. You can't just have an 8 or 10 team league, with even more loop fixtures, it's the fixtures such as ours with Leeds and even Wakey, Hull FC with Hull KR that drives keeps the tribal thing going, he's talking about ditching all those, but also the Aussies not playing test matches in season as the Origin games too important? Thankfully we didn't sell the game out to the NRL as was proposed not too long ago. I sill believe we need more teams in Superleague and not less, it should be 16 as in Australia, with absolutely no loop games. We can't grow the game with less teams competing, more teams will give more opportunity for players to play at the highest level.
