Bye

Toronto Wolfpack's resubmission to Super League has been rejected.

Understand the vote was 9-4 against.

Leeds, Catalans, St Helens and the RFL the four to vote in favour.

Pretty much inevitable, there is no certainty we will be able to fulfil onshore fixtures, have fans or travel.... So even without the backdrop of the bid - it's not viable on that basis.

regardless of the wrangling and politics I am afraid - the only way it would be viable is if Toronto owned a hotel and were only going to charter designated flights to provide a bio-secure bubble... That would only be available to NFL, MLB, NBA and top level soccer I am afraid.

There again, he could be bitter towards the club voting against Toronto being recalled to SL.
I’d like to think he’d be grateful we gave him a job for the season and offered him a contract for next year.

With this Pandemic and rumours the new Sky contract is going to be smaller than the last one it's possible we could end up with a 10 team league.

Can't see GOB been bitter towards us at all. If anything he will be bitter against Toronto for not been paid for the last 5 months.

In terms of O’Brien, one vote didn’t make any difference. I doubt he’s going to bear a grudge about us voting against the return of Toronto, given most other clubs did the same thing. He’s hardly going to refuse to play for any club who voted against their readmission, otherwise he’ll probably be out of a job!
I complete agree with the decision that the clubs made. Toronto have acted disgracefully by refusing to pay players, staff and suppliers. There’s no guarantee the new owners will pay back any losses, and the other clubs were furious that this was used to try and blackmail their way back in.
They won’t be missed. The multi-million dollar TV deals they claimed were inevitable came to nothing, even before the pandemic.
I’m glad they have gone. Clubs who treat their players and staff in the way Toronto did deserve nothing but liquidation.
And I don’t think it helped that the potential new owner made his case sitting in his car. Hardly taking things seriously, was he?

Could easily become more unsavoury, it isn't even as binary as UEFA and FIFA, which are both a shambles - but they're at least united in greed - European Super League for instance has nothing to do with sport, it is purely about money - the same way the Champions League has 4 teams in it from the UK, it isn't a champions anything, it is play more matches and make more money.

To the diatribe in hand - you have clubs, who will act in self interest naturally, RFL with responsibility for the whole supposedly, SL who seemingly represent one group on behalf of the other, throw in Sky as well - no consensus on standards and decisions or congruence regarding the future? You do surprise me.

This sport is crying out to be led well, long term and developed with standards, but for that you need some unity and a long term plan and the willingness to change and disrupt. I can't see that leadership or that willingness to any extent I am afraid - other sports, BDO, Snooker have proven if you don't drive forward, then you fail eventually as the former, or almost drift out of consciousness like the latter - albeit that is now back bigger than ever.

I see Featherstone have staked a claim by launching an attack on other clubs and the RFL and telling SL what to do next (which is to admit Featherstone, obviously!).
Some people never learn. Making enemies of the very people and organisations who you need support from is professional suicide.
