Re: Taking the knee
You trying to get me in trouble Notts? By we, I mean the honest hard working folk who wouldn't think of affiliating themselves with a movement such as BLM who want to defund the police. Now, why would they want to do that?

Not at all; because I don’t know you, I couldn’t know who you meant by ‘we’.Tigers1926 wrote: ↑09 Aug 2020, 15:39 You trying to get me in trouble Notts? I’m not sure it’s fair to say that everyone who supports BLM is dishonest and lazy, nor that anyone who doesn’t is hard-working and honest.

So Notts, who would support or associate themselves with a movement such as BLM so therefore supporting the ideals of the BLM. Defunding the police is only one of their ideas.

Re: Taking the knee
You may not agree with all of the 'policies' of the BLM movement but that shouldn't detract from the primary aim of true equality for all.
If you're genuinely struggling to understand the issues faced by blacks I suggest you watch a documentary film, The Australian Dream. It's about an ARL player, Adam Goodes, who is an indigenous Australian that faced racism during his playing career but chose to make a [very public] stance. He went from being Mr Australia to being booed at every game he played.
Thankfully, following a speech by an indigenous news caster, the tide turned but the film highlights the lack of understanding of white folk and how their casual racism shows itself.
The film also highlights how some of the previously viewed great history of Britain was often far from great. We (the British through captain Cook) had the nerve, and cheek, to declare Australia empty land in spite of the fact the Aboriginals had been there for between 60-70,000 years. We even had a policy of trying to eliminate them.
Fascinating, if a little unnerving, viewing.

Re: Taking the knee
in the pic in league express you can just make out big dave kneeling with the wigan players but wigan only have 12 players there so maybe one didn't take the knee but stayed out completely.

Re: Taking the knee
French and Fifita took the knee whilst covered in an aboriginal flag.
They seem to have made a decision not to take the knee based on their evolving knowledge of the issues.
I think following any dogma or ideology without trying to see the bigger picture is unwise.
Our knowledge of who we are and how society has evolved and will hopefully continue to evolve to produce a fairer more equal society will best happen with increasing knowledge and dialogue.
We have come along way in the last fifty years we still have a distance to travel if taking the knee moves us closer to equality great.
If however the strive for equality is hi jacked it will serve only to perpetuate or further polarise people.
So having read Trinity's reasoning l applaud them for trying to gain greater knowledge and understanding.
