Catalan V Rhinos

Post by casjunction » 10 Mar 2020, 18:56

The match is to go ahead
However it will be played behind closed doors.
This may impact on other games at least Wolfpack.
I can imagine it may become an issue for Catalan away fixtures.

Bernard Guasch furious with the Leeds club for not fliping the fixture and playing at leeds this week with the fixture scheduled to be at leeds later in the season to be moved to catalans and then furious with the rfl for not postponing the match till later in the season leaving the club to take a massive financial hit
there was a plan to draw lots to get 1,000 home fans in but that not been possible either

Catalans moaning about the fact they had games cancelled earlier in the year, but failing to see that those games were called off by match officials, whereas this game can go ahead.
Flipping the fixture would leave Leeds with a short turn-around between games away in a Toronto and then a game in France, so not great for them.
It would be almost impossible to staff a game at Headingley at such short notice as staff (catering/stewarding etc) who work for contractors are committed at other events.
I’m with Leeds on this one. The game itself can go ahead and should do. My sympathy is towards Leeds supporters who have paid for travel and accommodation and now cannot attend the game, not towards Catalans.

John Davidson twitter.

Confirmed now: Leeds don’t want to travel to France and the game against Catalans is postponed. To be played at a later date. Statements out soon.

So Leeds are now bigger than the RFL in deciding that they can cancel their own games?

To be fair if a player or staff member as self isolated then no one should be flying.
The RFL need to get its act together support not just Leeds but any team who thinks a game should be called off due to players/staff having symptoms. This isn’t a sniffle, this is a dangerous virus, that needs snuffing out and containing.

Couldn't the rest of the whinos team have travelled while the one with symptoms self isolated. Turns out he just had a sniffle. Makes you wonder if the whinos really wanted to play the game. Some whino fans have travelled so why didn't the team? Seems a bit fishy to me, whinos decided not to play the game when the RFL said games are going ahead 🤔

Looks like they’ve pulled a fast one to me.
Watch them moan when they get a fixture back log.

sounds like they are in big trouble financially. they have paid in advance for flights and accommodation which they have now lost if games don't go ahead.
to make things worse their owner bernard gauch has always bailed them out from his personal fortune.
the trouble being his butchers/meat supply business is in big trouble. he had the monopoly of supplying all the schools and local cafes and restaurants all of which have now been ordered to close by the french government.
may be some cheap steaks going here. ;)
