GB Squad

Post by heritage1926 » 14 Oct 2019, 14:11

Full GB Lions squad:
James Graham (St George Illawarra Dragons) Blake Austin (Warrington Wolves) John Bateman (Canberra Raiders) Tom Burgess (South Sydney) Daryl Clark (Warrington Wolves) Jake Connor (Hull FC) Lachlan Coote (St Helens) Oliver Gildart (Wigan Warriors) Zak Hardaker (Wigan Warriors) Jackson Hastings (Salford Red Devils) Ryan Hall (Sydney Roosters) Chris Hill (Warrington Wolves) Josh Hodgson (Canberra Raiders) Jack Hughes (Warrington Wolves) Josh Jones (Salford Red Devils) Jonny Lomax (St Helens) Jermaine McGillvary (Huddersfield Giants) Joe Philbin (Warrington Wolves) Luke Thompson (St Helens) Jake Trueman (Castleford Tigers) Alex Walmsley (St Helens) Elliott Whitehead (Canberra Raiders) Gareth Widdop (St George Illawarra Dragons) George Williams (Wigan Warriors).

Some absolutely crazy and down right disgraceful choices in that lot. Not impressed at all.

Hill & Philbin a joke, Hall & Widdop played 16 games combined this season, McGillvary was crap this season, Hardaker shouldn't be anywhere near an international jersey and of course no Watts....just wow, that is spectacularly bad.

is it the case that if you play in the NRL you’re in?

I wouldn’t have picked Trueman but how Watts has missed out I don’t know.

Trueman probably won't get a game as it will be Widdop and Hastings for sure.

Trueman lucky to be in, but probably looking at giving him experience in the international environment as I’m pretty sure he will be the future at that level with experience. I have no problem with Hardaker because his form has warranted it. Reckon Bennett will play him in centre though. The omission of Watts, Percival and Morgan Knowles though is completely baffling. Feel gutted for Watts as his form this season has been consistently brilliant and so has is discipline which Bennett always pointed to as the reason he’s never picked him. No Regan Grace neither which seems harsh as Ryan Hall has barely played all year and looks completely out of shape.

Knowles and Percival omitted because of injuries

Imo Austin, Williams, Lomax, Hastings and Widdop will all be in front of Trueman and possibly Connor if he doesn't use him in centres but it will be good for him to be in the squad to get the experience for the future.

I'd like to think it's a measure of the number of quality [British] props that has affected watts' chance but Chris 'elbow' Hill, for Christ's sake.

They normally choose the squad with a couple of players there to learn, so can see the value for truey . Jeez, ward at Leeds keeps getting picked in and around the squad but didn't play regular for his Leeds.

Hill, wow, wouldn't get in a Lancashire squad but gets a gig. He must have something on Bennett.

Used to be 2 seasons ago, now just bullies his way around the field, throwing elbows and attacking the head. He's be perfect for Wigan.

The rules are the same for every national team those "Aussies" qualify.

I've no problem with picking whomever as long as it's in the rules.

But I think it should be picked on form and that leaves a few out. Certainly Hill, philbin and Austin shouldn't be there. But I am happy that most of our players get the rest they need.
