Re: Toronto
Manu Tuilagi is apparently there next target.
I assume that is their quota of marquee signing.
Will be interesting to see how they put together a cohesive squad.

Re: Toronto
Manu Tuilagi will have a £0 value in his first season and only 50% in year 2 due to not having played professional RL before. No need to use marquee on him (same as Luther Burrell at Warrington)casjunction wrote: ↑17 Nov 2019, 18:04 Manu Tuilagi is apparently there next target.

Re: Toronto
I expect he'll have a relegation release clause.
I don't know how well any of this will work out for Toronto, but signing SBW and talks of signing other big rugby stars generates media coverage for our game - positive media coverage. That's not a bad thing, and its not my money being spent.
So good luck to them.

Re: Toronto
I am not sure about 10th, I think it is all going to be about the start of the season how they go permanently travelling. Appreciate they're Manchester based in reality, but the "on the road" thing, if it goes well and they get points on the board early, I think they will do OK.
I would back them for 8th, I think there are a few teams who might struggle beyond their first 17 players.

Re: Toronto
i wonder how much cash David Argyle is pumping into this venture, he must be very wealthy.
Re: Toronto
Yes and if they're as handy as they look on paper we had better watch our step. First game and all the razmataz that will go with it
If we aren't firing on all cylinders for this match we will get turned over. Happy 2020 here we go again.

Beyond Money Bill Williams and a few other decent super league players, they have little quality and even less depth.
They said they were working up to the salary cap last year and they were using one marquee spot on Leutele. Given this, they can’t have much more flexibility in the cap to sign more players now they have used up their second marquee spot (plus 175k of the cap) on SBW and signed a couple of others.
Their way forward is to perhaps tempt union players with lucrative short-term contracts that wouldn’t count on the cap, but that’s very short-term and I doubt many of the top Union players would be keen on a one-year deal.

Re: Toronto
SBW may count less on the cap since he is classified as a returning player from rugby union after 7 years (?) I think it is.
Salary only counts 50% in year 1 and 75% in year 2.

Re: Toronto
Don’t think so. As far as I know, it doesn’t apply if a player has played RL previously.HuddsTigers wrote: ↑24 Nov 2019, 20:36 SBW may count less on the cap since he is classified as a returning player from rugby union after 7 years (?) I think it is.

Even so, that would be 87.5k in 2020 and 131k in 2021. Still a considerable chunk of the cap.

Re: Toronto
There are two rules. One is for a player never playing RL.
The other is for a player that is a returning player. I think it is 7 years - it is in the rules. It is whether they can use that and marquee together I'd question if is in the spirit of the cap.
It is a big chunk but probably not too dissimilar to what Sims was on. Fairly cheap amount on the cap for a player of his calibre.

Pretty sure Wire got some dispensation when Charnley came back to league and he had only been away from the game for a couple of years.
