Re: Toronto
They'll be able to say they trained and played with a legend. Professionalism rubs of. Great news for the sport.Nobody wrote: ↑05 Nov 2019, 13:22What will it do for team morale with him being on big money though? He'll be getting paid in two seasons what it will take some players to earn in a life time.heritage1926 wrote: ↑05 Nov 2019, 13:03IMO, this is one of them signings where Toronto are doing it for more than just what they get on the field from him.nottinghamtiger wrote: ↑05 Nov 2019, 12:16 On the plus side, it will raise the profile of the game and the Toronto club.
But I can’t help thinking they are making an expensive mistake in terms of on-field success. We’ve seen in the past that having one or two superstars doesn’t work when the rest of the squad are not SL standard.
They’ve now used up their two marquee spots for next year and beyond SBW and a couple of others who are decent SL-level players, I don’t see enough quality or depth to make me think they won’t go straight back down.
SBW is also 34 with a horrific injury record in recent years.
From a PR point of view, it’s probably a winner.
SBW is a rare commodity in Rugby League, his stock is massive all over the world. For Toronto to get his services, even this late in his career and regardless of what money he earns, is massive for Super League.
Attendances will increase because fans will want to see a player of his calibre at their own ground, Toronto and the brand Super League are now being talked about across all Social Media world wide.

Re: Toronto
they're only allowed 2 marquee signings and sonny bill is one so they won't be able to sign all those with out serious cap fiddling.

Re: Toronto
It says tuillagi and the Nfl player wouldn't count on the cap for the first year maybe because theve played league before ? Not sure tbh

Re: Toronto
Think the NFL player won't count due to coming from a different body of sport, unsure myself also.

Re: Toronto
Something to do with talent pool dispensation, Luther Burrell doesn't count on Warrington cap for 18 month due to same rule.

Re: Toronto
thinking about it they had 2 marquee players last season (ricky leutele and darcy lussick) leutele was rumoured to be the highest paid player over despite being in the championship. both are at twp next season so i don't know how they'll get round that.

Re: Toronto
he's committed to 2 seasons so in 2021 he could be running out at batley sheffield and swinton if they go back down. which they could easily do.

Re: Toronto
I think on the field this is an issue, the attention he commands given his name and profile is bound to make opportunity for everyone else.
You can say what you like about the right and wrong of them being in SL, they haven't come to mess about, the backing is putting their money where their mouth is and aiming up and out, not down and in.
I think they'll do OK, the squad is up to it.

Re: Toronto
Manu Tuilagi is apparently there next target.
I assume that is their quota of marquee signing.
Will be interesting to see how they put together a cohesive squad.

Re: Toronto
Manu Tuilagi will have a £0 value in his first season and only 50% in year 2 due to not having played professional RL before. No need to use marquee on him (same as Luther Burrell at Warrington)casjunction wrote: ↑17 Nov 2019, 18:04 Manu Tuilagi is apparently there next target.
