marshman wrote:There's no reason why the coaches can't get on mate. We all want to see our kids do well and win, but it's not about getting one over on Cas Panthers or who ever, it's about getting kids playing RL and enjoying it and helping them learn the game and maybe even one day make it as a pro. Personally i can't see any point in disliking another team or getting enjoyment from rubbing someone elses nose in it, (especially at under 8's and 9s). I'm glad the coaches do seem to get on and it's nice to hear that. I think our coach at Townville actually used to play for Panthers not too long ago.

I'd much rather see my lad playing more often in and around Cas against other local sides and helping the game in our area if that could happen. It's good to play teams from elsewhere, but it would be nice if the Cas sides could get their heads together and bring the game on even further in Cas. If we get nothing sorted in the new year then why not make a day of it when the weather warms up, get some Cas players to show their faces. It would be a good way to finishe the season and give the kids a smile to see the likes of Goldy and Westy etc.

BTW, if townville and Panthers under 9's ever play it should be a cracker. I hear our nines are doing really well so it would be good to see them against your side. Didn't your team do really well last year?
we will be holding our festival in july again and we always try to invite the local teams has we did last year and im sure lock lane will be doing the same, last year our u8s won both festivals beating lock lane in one final and garforth in the other, we did play townville in a semi final which we won, teams do change from year to year and with the u9s now playing mod rules its a completley different game to the mini league rules.

onething i miss is having the cas and district team,i still feel that there should be some reward for our top juniors and a place in a district team would be some reward even if its just for training sessions, unfotunatley the powers that be feel that makes it too competative for children but has a junior myself it was always something i looked forward to been picked for the district and county teams.

Financial Support on Offer to Clubs for Travel

Clubs to receive financial support with their Carnegie Challenge Cup travel costs

All community clubs playing away from home in the early stages of the 2009 Carnegie Challenge Cup will receive money towards their travel costs.

In a new move by the RFL which will see them investing £26,500, all community clubs drawn away in the Preliminary, first and second rounds of the competition will be given £500 to help with travel costs to games.

Sue Allan, the RFL’s Director of Finance, said: “Due to the geographic spread of the teams taking part in the competition and the current economic climate, assisting clubs with their away travel costs is the right thing to do.

“The early stages of the Carnegie Challenge Cup involve teams from Scotland, Wales and the South, as well as the traditional Rugby League heartland. In the Preliminary Round alone the RFL will be investing £10,000 to help with travel costs.â€

Was there some kind of Yorks cup game at Fev today?

I only ask as the number of folk heading to the Fat DJ Stadium was almost as many for a Fev home game. 8)

Yorkshire County Cup Final O/A

Sharlston Rovers 22 v 0 Hunslet Warriors.

2000 was the quoted figure I believe.

Thanks very much NK and that figure would be more than the usual Fev home crowd.

A few familiar faces in that Sharlston line up but one in particular puzzles me. I won't name him (you might guess) but he appears to play for Sharlston in winter and Fev Lions in the summer so I was wondering if that was possible?

Any player can play in summer conference and also play for different winter team.

This has been a problem for some clubs as they lose there winter players and the overlap periods hurt teams at beginning and end of their winter season.

The player needs releasing from summer clubs but dont when they leave winter team

Form and league positions would say Siddal will give Normy a hiding, I myself think there could be a cup upset.

True, you never know with teams in the lower leagues, the can usually all beat each other, but i still see siddal winning it.

Thanks for the heads up. I went and my feet were successfully turned into ice-cubes. It was a good match, but we lost. I can't remember the exact score, but I know that at half-time it was 16-12 to Siddal. Normy scored two back to back tries right before half-time, but it went downhill from there.
