Hubby as been offered a better paid job in the past.
But the work load was ridiculous, so stuck with the job he had.
So it does happen, that’s why I asked.

Because its not a straightforward question

Too many variables

I agree. Read it and wondered how to answer a question with so many variables

- What's the commuting distance?
- Where am I based & what are house prices like in comparison to where I live?
- how good are the schools?
- how far am I from my family?

I could go on.....

Absolutely

Plus

The team you're surrounded by and work with

Targets,goals,job progression etc

Nothing is ever a yes/no straightforward question/answer with anyones career, even those in the world of professional sport

You have to live out 2 nights a week in a hotel the other 3 days you work from home. You dont need to move house or re locate. 2 hours drive from your home.

If an individual is purely motivated by money the answer is easy. Luckily not everyone is!

- How will the hotels be funded? Am I paying or will my new company fund that?
- What quality of hotel is it?
- Can I claim expenses for the commute or is it part of my salary?
- how does the mileage claim affect my tax liability as new legislation states that if I travel to the same location for 20% of my working week then it's classed as my work base & I can't claim for that journey?
- is my holiday allowance the same as I have accrued 6 weeks per annum in my current role due to length of service - or will I revert to 4 weeks?
- How does the company's pension scheme compare to my current arrangement which is a defined benefit?
- is there a decent chippy nearby?
- I have a flexible working arrangement in my current job where I can share the school run with my current wife - will I still be able to do that 5 days a week?

We've barely started...... 😉

Depends how old Westerbeast73 is. She/He may not have faced such life changing decisions as of yet.

You're right actually. Apologies.

At my proposed new company:

- Is there a KFC within walking distance?
- How fast is the wi-fi?
- How many varieties of Monster are in the canteen range?
- Are garment hoods allowed in the up setting on company premises?
- Are visible tattoos permitted in non customer facing roles?
- Can I book paid time off for talent show auditions under the guise of career development?
- Has any employee from my potential new employer ever got through the initial application stage of any reality TV show?
- Does the company have its own own Snapchat platform?
- Is the wearing of fake tan frowned upon due to its effect on the environment or seen as aspirational and a sign of wellbeing?
