Reports on social media claim he is in top position to be the next Castleford coach. The Former Leeds chief is very close friends with Jon Wells from their London days and apparently as agreed the job in principle... Oh dear if true...

Out of available coaches in the UK, he's be my choice. He knows how to win.

The others linked so far :

Ford at York = too young in the role, no sl experience

Orr = no head coach experience yet

Marshall at Salford = future looks bright but still a way off.

Wane = not a chance, defensively minded thug but knows how to win

Henderson at wire = knows the club but I don't see how he takes us forward

Radford = not good enough, he's had the players but can't get them to gel.

I'd like a young aussie coach who could bring talent with him but there's no money in our game compared to reserves in oz. I also think we are going down the right route with young UK based playing talent. Overseas players should be starting or first 17. We can handle a project but only one.

You can't argue with McDermott's success. What you can question is how much of it was down to him, and how much was down to the leadership of the core players he had in that Leeds squad.

My preference is still Danny Ward.

No shock at all, he’s someone who will take no crap from the players and will hopefully bring the right players to the club.

Horrible coach with little tactical knowledge other than five drives and kick.

Won things with Leeds who had a self-coached team full of top quality players.

Bit hypocritical if true. Coaching a small northern town in a failed Super League

My preference would be Shane Flanagan coming in for a couple of years with Hendo as is assistant ready to take over after that period.
Certainly can't argue with Brian Mac though, not only been great at Leeds but done well in difficult circumstances at London and Toronto.
If we are to attract top players a top coach is essential.

genuinely hope its not McDermott, smashing fella having met him, but genuinely dont believe people are going to like the rugby we would produce under him, its not going to be anything like what we're used to.

Still time will tell, personally I still think Ford from York is the hot tip, but we'll have to wait and see I guess.

Thought he said small town clubs were holding RL back?

He's a terrible coach and that showed when the superstars of Leeds retired, he didn't have a clue!

Not the man for a club with limited funds and a team that needs a smart tactical coach that can get the most out of the players.

There have been 5 candidates from Australia that have applied for the role, don't know who, but a few have pedigree, so will be interesting to see who get's the gig.

Not being funny heritage and I respect what you have said.
How do you know they have pedigree if you don’t know who they are.

Apparently the name in the frame with a suggested meeting with IF tomorrow?

If true would you be happy with him as the new coach or not?

Bearing in mind he said that “Castleford are an embarrassment to SL” not so many years ago and we all know who he would rather coach.

Thoughts?
