Paul Mcshane
Re: Paul Mcshane
If the club was to respond to every rumour going around Cas, they would never get any work done.
Re: Paul Mcshane
Obviously not but when a rumour is published in numerous papers its time to nip it in butt.

Re: Paul Mcshane
Which newspapers have mentioned it? The only one I’ve seen is League Express, who refuted it and laughed it off, and League Weekly who take their info from here anyway.
Fact that the media are denying it (yet were the opposite for Gale) says it all to me

Following the scenario of months of speculation over Gale, I can only see this going one way...

Re: Paul Mcshane
He has a contract until 2022, not a chance can Leeds afford another 100k plus pay out.

Re: Paul Mcshane
Aye, they can afford the fine and the wages, no fear of losing points either if they keep the extras below 95k i believe
Re: Paul Mcshane
Trent Mirron is staying at Leeds, a player they were hoping to unload, so Leeds will have to be very creative with the salary cap after signing Gale.
Re: Paul Mcshane
- Marquee Player – Each Super League and Championship Club is permitted to have two Marquee Players whose Salary Cap Value is limited to £150,000 (or £75,000 if Club Trained).
- Club Trained Dispensation – Each Super League Club is given up to £100,000 of dispensation for producing Super League standard players.
- Player Welfare Dispensation – Each Super League Club that achieves the player welfare target is given a £15,000 dispensation.
- New Talent Pool Dispensation – Any Player who has not previously played Rugby League is given a value of £0 in the first year of his contract and at 50% of his true value in the second year.
- Returning Talent Pool Dispensation – Any Player who has not previously played Rugby League in the 5 years prior to signing is given a value of 50% of his true value in the first year of his contract and 75% of his true value in the second year.
- International Bonuses – Bonuses paid for international representation are excluded up to specified maximums.
- Educational Fees paid directly by Clubs are excluded.
- Prize Money – Payments made out of prize money are excluded.
I found the last one interesting. Does that mean if a club offered player X 25% of all prize money earned over the course of a season, that wouldn’t count on the cap???

Re: Paul Mcshane
Clubs can change the named marquee player.
Ironically, it doesn’t even need to be the highest-paid player. For example, if Gale is on 200k, only 75k counts on the cap (thus giving an exemption of 125k). If Merrin is on 210k, 150k counts on the cap (thus giving an exemption of 60k). As such, Leeds are far better to name Gale as the marquee player as it allows them to spend more elsewhere.
It’s why they were so keen to get him.

Re: Paul Mcshane
The prize money thing means you can give up to all of it to the players if you want and it doesn't count on the cap.
I like that, gives extra incentive to the players. Not that they should need it mind.
