Keep Ellis Rankin would be take up a quota space and just sat in stand.fords wrote:Aston and Maher and Egodo all need to be released end of year.Tiger53 wrote:Personally I don’t think that Gelling is the answer to our problems. Releasing Ben Roberts gives us an overseas spot and Jordan Rankin hasn’t been signed permanently yet so we could make that two if we wanted. A little bit of manouvering with some of the fringe players and we could be in a great position to overhaul the squad with an emphasis on quality in the starting 17. Doing this might take us into next season but personally I would rather that than jump in with stop-gaps now that tie our hands in the future.
Then we decide who to keep between Ellis and Rankin as cover for Gale and Trueman.
Personally id get rid of both and go after Hastings to be the long term replacement of Gale

Re: Gelling
Rankin can cover half back , centre and fullback. Ellis can only cover half back. :-kMucky1978 wrote:Keep Ellis Rankin would be take up a quota space and just sat in stand.fords wrote:Aston and Maher and Egodo all need to be released end of year.Tiger53 wrote:Personally I don’t think that Gelling is the answer to our problems. Also as mentioned elsewhere if we want a stop gap give Inu a run till end of season then look for something better for next season.
If we sign Gelling then fine he will get my support but personally I have never rated the guy, great athlete crap RL player.........

Taken off the Loverugbyleague website.
Castleford look at Gelling
Castleford Tigers are on the lookout for a centre to boost their squad – with Widnes Vikings’ Anthony Gelling believed to be an option, report League Weekly.
The Tigers are assessing the transfer market following the departure of Ben Roberts. With Jordan Rankin impressing after his arrival from Huddersfield Giants, it is believed the club want a centre rather than a playmaker. According to League Weekly, Gelling is a player who Castleford are interested in. The Cook Islands international is contracted to the Vikings, but the Widnes club could be encouraged to sell him for a transfer fee to raise cash and free up some of their wage bill.

Rather than waste your outlay of hard earned cash XP - maybe you could take the aforementioned garment back to the shop and ask them to replace the "e" with an "a"?Mr XP wrote:Cant believe I went out this morning and got "gelling" printed on the back of my cas shirt based on what someone's brothers best friends cousins dog Walker told them on Facebook.....Still every cloud and all ..I did learn that if I am ever held up at knife point while stood at the ATM if I put my pin in backwards it will alert the police ...oh hold on my pin is 2332 ..please don't rob me at a knifepoint Facebook people , share to make aware I bet 99 % wont
You could then wear it as a kind of dirty protest to demonstrate how vexed you are with the whole shebang....?
Just an idea...

Re: Gelling
With respect to overseas spots... I appreciate that Rankin takes up a full spot, however what about Roberts?
Are the Samoan / Togan / Cook Island players a full spot, or a portion of...? I seem to recall reading they were classed as Kolpak, or similar, and as they were technically a tier 2 nation in RL terms their players didn't command the same weight on the overseas register as, say, an Aussie or Kiwi.
Anyone know the definitive answer for 2019?

Re: Gelling
Kind of depends what WIdnes situation is now to be honest.
Gelling, for whatever you think on the field had a pretty long and successful stint with Wigan a specialist Centre. So ticks that box.
Widnes could be offloading people, but equally the gold for all clubs is younger fans and Gelling is worth a lot more on Twitter and Insta (I use neither) because he does have a big profile and engages young people.
If their primary demographic is 40+ for instance, he is worth a lot more over 3 seasons than just the on field. I think he is valuable on an off field, if used well. (not sure how our age profile is of paying people)
So, how desperate are WIdnes to save money, or are they now in a position to try and build on for next year? I have no idea what their individual situation is or their financial position.
