Haven't seen it back so can't comment on the try other than what I saw at the ground. Don't think it was a knock as he was facing his own line. Looked like the ball did hit the line though. Then it seems the rules are a grey area and open to interpretation with him jumping. Though I didn't see much wrong with it at the game. Neutrals saying it was wrong on Twitter seemed to suggest it was a wrong call. And the lino also said it wasn't a try either so the ref overruled him.

Some of the penalties were fair and symptomatic of a tiring outfit. However, it is always consistency that is the problem. If you are going to apply rules then apply them both ways and not selectively. Everything seemed to go for them 2nd half and there were times when they got away with things. The six again rule is total tosh. There's zero benefit half the time and we seem to be suckerpunched into getting them only on the first or second tackles on our own line.

The last try the ref was totally unsighted and dictated by onfield call. Two onfield calls gave Saints points.

Other than that I think we were beaten by a better pack to be honest.

Definitely beaten by a better bigger more aggressive pack.
The last try imo the ref went with the saints players, they were celebrating like it was the winning try.
I thought moore was weak in the major decisions.

I agree with both of you OCL and Hudds. Think you are both spot on.

I am going to defend this team a little in 92 and 14 when we lost we really did not play well, yesterday we had no luck especially saints 1st 2 tries and got none of 50/50 calls. If the saints second try not been given the longer game goes on harder it is to chase so we will never know but as i pointed out to one fan he kept going on about our previous cup wins you have to remember in all our cup wins we won by one score, we didn't hammer anyone remember 86 they missed kick to win game so on that day we had the luck yesterday we got absolutely none. For once i've come out of a losing final knowing we really came much closer than the scoreline reflected

Very true 68er. Never pulled them for offside from memory. Yet there were instances where their retreat was about 7 yards.

We just run out of steam put everything in to the first half.
Thought some of our fans where a disgrace soon as we started losing group of 8 lads behind me slating Powell Milo Watts and Shenton for the last half hour.
Calling Powell a fraud etc
Also saints fan in our end slapped in the face by Cas fans when they scored there last try.

Jesse played much better than Foster. Foster did nothing when he came on.

Anyone know why Matagi didn't play? Griffin is also a wasted spot.

I heard Matagi had upset stomach on the Friday so was unwell. I though our bench was too small when compared to Saints and would’ve preferred more size on there. Bienek, Blair, Matagi (if well) would’ve provided much better go forward than Milner and Foster did.

The 'no try' was the turning point in the game but it came with a number of other lucky incidents, including their first try. Yes I know the intention is to aim for the posts with these kick throughs but with the bounce of a rugby ball, it is pure luck when you hit it and it then bounces straight back into one of your team's hands.

I was also bemused by a tackle just before the Milner 'knock on' when it appears as though Percival took one of our lads heads off close to the line.

What I do know about saints are is that they are masters of sneaking offside in defence and holding down in the tackle for far too long without getting pinged.

Onwards and upwards we go...

Our body language all game was pretty tough to watch, any sort of break in play and half a dozen players would drop to the floor at any given time wanting treatment. Respect to the players who played busted, but in the end it told, especially them that haven't played for 4 weeks. However, I feel like we'd have beaten any other team on Saturday had it not been Saints, we just came up against a really fit and intense side who were hell bent on winning.

I think Matagi in for Griffin would have made a difference Saturday. I’m not a fan of Griffin at all though, especially at prop - he’s never been and never will be a prop forward.

I agree he's not a prop, was happy we had signed him as i thought he played really well for Salford in the back row but he hasn't really been used in that position much for us.

We ran out of steam. Simple as. And made some poor attacking calls when we were desperate.

But we should have had two penalties in kicking range for high shots on Watts and Smith. Even the BBC pundits called them.

16 6 at half time. And then the Roby "try"? Three big calls against us and a ten point swing.

Proud of the effort. You don't beat saints without either a bit of luck or a ref's call your way.

We had four go against us.

We get knocked down....

Two turning points for me was one we should have dropped goal on 3rd or 4th tackle just on half time to give us two score physological advantage not wait till last tackle as that's what teams expect. Two second turning point was that levelling try as the longer game went on with us leading the more pressure on saints from themselves and there fans too
