Danny Richardson

Post by Mucky1978 » 29 May 2021, 11:15

70k we paid for this lad.
Other then goal kicking What does he actually do? Doesn’t talk in games doesn’t look for ball.
Haven’t we anyone in u19s who can take is place if Trueman and Obrien aren’t fit.

The worry for me is that he seems completely unable to defend. It makes us far too easy to open up.

Young lad Adam rusling in 19’s gonna be some player. Although DP would rather play a prop at half instead

You have to ask why did we buy him?

What did we see in him and why isn’t he performing as we would expect or like to see?

He has been a very good player in the past so we know he can do it. Is it the coaching or the player or a bit of both?

Trueman does a bit more but not consistently so is it either of the above for the half backs?

We did need a good goal kicker and so far he has delivered but a kicker instead of a good player isn’t a good swap.

If we are to win ne to week we need DR to step up as we know he can and that will certainly help.

I don’t rate Richardson one little bit and never have.
He is a terrible defender but you can forgive that slightly if he makes up tor it in other areas but he doesn’t.
He lacks any composure in attack and is like a rabbit in the headlights under any defensive pressure whatsoever.but our dilemma now is who partners trueman next week assuming O’Brien isn’t fit?
Do we play him just in case it’s a tight match and a crucial kick could win it because that’s all he brings to the team.
Personally I’d play Turner there although not ideal

Just watching Powell interview and he said 3 of the 4 spine players missing so obviously doesn’t class Richardson as his starting half.

he looked good when we went for him and i was pleased we signed him, but the lad is well out of form at the moment and could do with lending out to get his game back together

Hes as bad as Sean Rudder. Does absolutely nothing in attack. Hope Radford has some backs lined up as they are awful.

Still contracted unfortunately
Like gateman says maybe a loan spell might get him going.
He certainly isn’t a super league standard scrum half at the moment

Defensively, he isn't very good and has a lot of work to do to improve.

In attack, I do wonder how much is down to the lack of any kind of foundation. Our forwards looked knackered, unfit and plodding back after 20 mins yesterday. Barely any of them break a tackle or get on the front fit. It feels like even people like Watts are long way off.

As the only legit half and no one getting us on the front fit, it does feel like Richardson gets exposed more. Sort of player that really needs a gobby, organising 6 beside him. Dare I say it, someone like Danny McGuire. Off to wash my mouth out now.

I think you get a strong centre and second row around him he does what he has to in D and gets in front of his man our D all over is an absolute shambles we’ve looked like headless chickens most of season. Half the time we have no line movement never mind line speed and just invite the other teams on to us. As a half back we haven’t laid a single decent platform for Danny or truey to have a good crack at. Add to that I think Danny is a massive confidence player and just like with Eden Powell fails to get either the best out of these two players

Danny gives me the feeling he doesn't want to be here. Maybe he feels uncomfortable and alone this side of the Pennines. When a try scored, I have noticed he never goes to congratulate the scorer, no smile, no nothing. Think he doesn't fit into life around Castleford.

he was supposed to be best mates with Truman, but if Truman is leaving this could be all part of the problem & the general upheaval that's going on at the club, pity as i liked the look of him when he first came to us, but he seems to have gone backwards.

Maybe he’ll be better with a different coach? Radford likes big second rows and centres that would give DR some protection because currently our RHS is pants at defending and it seems DP isn’t capable of doing anything about it.
A long shot I know but maybe with players around him who can help him defensively (als Saints) he would gain in confidence and fulfil some of his potential?

When DR was at Saints his forrards protected him, last season he got clouted quite a few times with no protection, I think you all would be off your game as well.

He will come good when Radders gets a few big uns to look after him

Fair point I wouldn't like to be a half-back playing behind are pack
When we played HKR and Truey got threatened by Grub Simms I had a chuckle to myself thinking of someone like Denis Hartley and what would have happened to any opposition forward that tried it on with Hardisty and Heppy like that
