He'd be lucky to get half that if I was paying wages... He's a squad player that's all.

Re: Minikin
I hear what some players are on and a lot of the time I cannot get my head around it! There is NO player in the poor standard which is the current English/European Super league who is worth £250,000 per year. Average players are commanding between £50,000 - £100,000 per year. Pure madness.bane73 wrote: ↑15 May 2021, 12:34He'd be lucky to get half that if I was paying wages... He's a squad player that's all.

and this is why super league clubs dont want to expand to 14 teams, the sky money wouldn't go round.

Re: Minikin
I think SL players getting paid £70k or more is fair when they are getting hammered every week and their career could go overnight through a serious injury. A serious injury that could affect the rest of their lives - see Mose Masoe as an example.
May just be me but I think SL players get underpaid for the work they do. Particularly when you see footballers getting paid that in one week.
The average SL player gets paid around £70k. Top earners probably £100k-150k barring marquees.
Lower end 25 players used to be paid £25k at least (wasn't it the 25/25 rule or something?). Championship players could earn more than that in a part or full time job like ordinary people or combined with RL salary. It would need to take probably an offer of £40k+ for them to make it worthwhile.
When Minikin left us, he was a proven Super League player who could play wing or centre. Not only that, he had been a regular try scorer. Is he worth £70k now? Probably not. Back then, I'd argue he was or close to it. Also have to factor in that bottom half clubs have to pay OTT for players to sign given the risks of no job from relegation. Plus, there was an article recently, can't remember where I read it - mat have been in relation to King to HKR - where the HKR chairman/CEO was saying that it takes a lot for people to up sticks across the M62 to Hull, miles away from anywhere.

Re: Minikin
It's sad that what I think is a great game doesn't get the wider exposure that it warrants, and that the skills and athleticism displayed by the players don't get the recognition they deserve. Financially only the select few are going to make a decent living out of the game while like Masoe every week they run the risk of not only a career ending injury but a life changing one,how do you put a price on that? Clubs finances have always dictated what can and can't be paid, live outside those finances and as we've seen you'll only go one way as a club which sadly for the players, in my opinion means the payment they receive will never reflect their value as sportsman. I'm sure the club will have a "value" figure for Minikin be it £50k,less or more, if they want him they'll negotiate,if his wage demands are higher than what the club believes his worth to the club is,they won't. As ever on here everyone will have an opinion,it's all we can have, the decision making is way out of our remit, but that's all the fun of the forum, he'll either never make a centre,be an upgrade on Clare,or as a player with a well above average strike rate be an astute signing. Only time will tell.

Re: Minikin
Minikin may look average or mediocre due to the players giving him service.
Playing in a different back line with different plays etc might make him look a better player, thats why we have coaches to spot this potential in a certain player at other clubs, the likes of us forum users probably not got the vision to see what the likes of Radders and Powell before him see.
All i know is in his last spell with us he was a solid reliable performer more often than not.
A good adition for my rekoning.

Re: Minikin
He certainly had a task on starting his job as centre with Clare as his wingman them two on the right edge were shocking but I do agree with what your sayingAltofts tiger25 wrote: ↑16 May 2021, 07:44 Minikin may look average or mediocre due to the players giving him service.

In order to answer the question "onside" would have to :-Fumper27 wrote: ↑14 May 2021, 20:56Don’t think he’s having a go, just asking a question. Why not just answer it instead of getting defensive? Minnikin left Cas before you joined the forum...
Should off thought off that
Back on topic - I’m against Minikin if he is coming as a starting player but happy if he replaced James Clare as a squad player.
A) admit being wrong, or,
B) admit to having more than one account.
So which is it?

C) all of the above
I would hope Radders has better targets to replace Shenny (who’ll hopefully do the right thing and retire) and Pete (if the rumours are true)

Re: Minikin
Minikin has the potential but he's getting on to start showing it. When he played against shenny on the opposite side, shenny wins hands down each time.
Where does that put him? I should how we could do better, a real strike centre.

Re: Minikin
Minikin was superb on the wing with Jake webster inside of him.
Imo I don’t think he as come on or got better from 2017.
If he wants a regular spot in a team I think he’d have to settle on being a wing man.
Don’t think he’s for us now. Just my opinion.

Agreed , he didnt look too bad when we had two gregs on the wings, get good centres and the wingers will score a bucketful, just look at Offiah, a sprinter, nothing else, but his centres were world classAltofts tiger25 wrote: ↑16 May 2021, 07:44 Minikin may look average or mediocre due to the players giving him service.

Old cliche but yes at the right price which is probably less than he wants/thinks he deserves.
