League Table
League Table
Can anyone explain to me how Wigan are higher than Cas and Catalan in the current league table.
I know it’s win % but Saints, Hull, Cas, Wigan and Catalan are all on 100%. My understanding is that it is then on average points difference so I get Saints who have the best points difference anyway and I get Hull who have a points difference of 53 over 2 games = 21.5. However, of the other 3 Cas PD is 53, Catalans 47 and Wigan’s 43 so as all have played 3 games that makes the PD - Cas 17.67, Catalan 15.67 and Wigan 14.33 so the table should surely be 1 Saints 2 Hull 3 Cas 4 Catalan 5 Wigan yet everyone seems to have 1 Saints 2 Hull 3 Wigan 4 Cas 5 Catalan.

Re: League Table
It’s based on points difference percentage:
Points scored DIVIDED BY points conceded MULTIPLIED BY 100

Re: League Table
i posted this explanation on a different thread, hull's points percentage is 57 for and 14 against giving 407.14% which is the points for divided by points against then multiplied by 100, Cas (91/38) * 100 = 239.47Tiger53 wrote: ↑17 Apr 2021, 19:26 Can anyone explain to me how Wigan are higher than Cas and Catalan in the current league table.

Re: League Table
That explains it but seems a weird system. Points difference didn't favour teams who had played more/less or anything anyway so why the change?
Re: League Table
Well it does explain it.
Well thought out again by the RFL. Looks ridiculous and very easy to understand, I don’t think !
Take a bow the powers that be.

Re: League Table
I suppose simple points difference might, in the event of an interrupted season, favour those who have more games against lower teams...
Someone better at maths than me might know.

Well if you take 7 and divide by the other and then divide a bag of onions into four you should end up with 9 brussel sprouts. Simples.

Re: League Table
Whatever system they use they'll probably change it halfway through the season so that Leeds can get into the playoffs
Re: League Table
They’d change it after the league season finished to achieve that goalSpanishtiger wrote: ↑18 Apr 2021, 09:53 Whatever system they use they'll probably change it halfway through the season so that Leeds can get into the playoffs

Re: League Table
In an incomplete season the win percentage system would favour teams who have played more games against the bottom teams anyway, without worrying about points difference %.cogito ergo sum wrote: ↑18 Apr 2021, 09:12 I suppose simple points difference might, in the event of an interrupted season, favour those who have more games against lower teams...

If we give it a real go in the cup & also finish in the play of places, who knows what might happen....
Give DP the kind off send of he deserves.....
