Reported from who? Dave from the glass blower said it and people believed it. Niall will have signed a multi year deal at cas but due to finances and uncertainty in the tv deal cas are playing safe and only handing out one year deals. On the other hand cas have made a gentleman’s agreement so that Niall and other players do sign for us for 2022 and beyond.

Reported by the club when they announced the deal.

If true, this should’ve been announced as it’ll show on the cap. A multi year contract is averaged out over the length of the contract, so clubs don’t sign players cheap for a few years then release them when the cost goes up (think Fielden and his move to Wigan in 2006).

My understanding is that this is salary-cap related.
If he signs a one-year deal, that is all that count in the cap for 2021 regardless of whether he signs a new contract for 2022 and possibly beyond. By giving him a 12 month contract, Cas can increase his wage in 2022 but not have that weighted towards the cap for 2021.
What I don’t really get is why we need to do that, given the players who have left this year. You’d think that having lost higher earners such as Moors and McMeeken, we shouldn’t need to fudge the cap in such a way.
Comments from Jon Wells and Powell suggested they agreement is for more than a single season.
But it’s not good for quelling rumours of him going to St Helens/Huddersfield/NRL etc. It pretty much starts rumours as soon as the season starts.

It only takes us to have a lousy year 2021.
Evalds may think why am I bothering here at cas when I’m oni on a one year deal and I could walk into a too 4 team.
Wouldn’t take much to turn his head.

Saints,Wigan & Warrington should be top 3 in the 2021 regular season's finishing positions.

We are joint 4th with 4 other sides
Catalans
Giants
Hull FC
Rhinos

So if the bookies are correct then we will finish between 4th and 8th but above
Hull KR
Salford
Trinity and
Leigh

IMO Dragons,Giants,Hull FC and Rhinos will all finish above us (although not in that particular order)

Hope i'm wrong though, but 2021 is certainly a big season for us and if the full season is played out to the full and uninterrupted then it will show us where we are as a club.

Realistically speaking, where is the line in the sand for us in the posters opinions on here as to what finishing position is deemed a successful one?

Am I right in thinking that it is going to be top 6 again next year?

Yes, as things stand.
In my view it’s the very definition of rewarding mediocrity when the team that finishes half way down the league is given a shot at winning the competition by playing well for a few games.

I think it’s a bit more complex that the final league position. I’d rather win the cup and finish fifth/sixth than finish higher up the table but still win nothing.
I’d be happy with a top 4 finish and a decent dig at making the GF come the play-offs. If we won the cup I’d be happy with 5th or 6th and a decent go at the play-offs.
Anything below 6th is a poor season.

I would confidently predict the league table based in the four players who make up the spine of each team.
1 - Coote/Lomax/Fages/Roby
2 - French/Hastings/Field or Leuluai/Powell.
3 - Ratchford/Widdop/Austin/Clark
4 - Evalds/Trueman/Richardson/McShane
5 - Tomkins/Maloney/Drinkwater/McIllorum
6 - Walker or Myler/Gale/Lui/Leeming
7 - Connor/Sneyd/Reynolds/Houghton
8 - Golding/Sezer/Cogger/O’Brien
9 - Escare/Lolohea/Brown/Ackers
10 - Walker/Miller/Lino/Wood
11 - Quinlan/Abdul/????/Parcell
12 - ????/Brierley/Ellis/Hood.

IMO the return to having scrums (or not) will have a big influence on our season, as DP's strategies have previously been largely based around structures from scrums and restarts, but the 'frantic' rugby since the restart of 2020 didnt suit us at all.
If the 6 again and no scrums rules are scrapped I am more optimistic for 2021, with a top 4 finish a real possibility.

Strong rumour Widdop is heading back to Australia too, so much might depend on who they recruit to take his place, or if they move Ratchford into the halves and play Ashton (who looked good) at full-back.

Like you probably know Trueman was supposed to be signing for them. Time will tell on that one, I would prefer O'Brien at 6 anyway to be honest.

Wouldn’t worry that website is overly biased even with-it being a Hull based website lol we have a better hooker and Fullback then Hull not sure about halves

Given tomorrow’s LE reports that Widdop is likely to stay at Warrington, I wonder where that’ll leave Jake Trueman when his signing for them is announced...😬😬
