Loose forward next season
Been reading some interesting articles recently from Australia regarding clubs changing the way the loose (lock) forward now plays in the NRL.
Newcastle Knights are promoting Connor Watson, currently an hooker, to play loose in 2021. They feel that now the game is even quicker, a smaller, quicker ball playing man, with a good engine is better than the bigger forward lump it in type.
Got me thinking, would it be worth rolling with O'Neill at 13, who has all the above and are players like Massey and Milner, more conventional 13's dying out of the game with the rule changes. IMO, Milner especially really struggled after the rule change and his game will have to massively improve to keep up.
What are peoples thoughts?

I’ve said for a while that Jacques would make an ideal 13 in my opinion. With Macca at 9, Jacques at 13 and GoB on the bench I think it gives great options whatever happens throughout the game.

Semantics really.
It goes down to the style of play that the Coach requires.
Personally, I believe we have 3 great options in:
Miller
Massey
O' Neil.
Different opposition require different choices.
Happy Days.!!!!!!!

Re: Loose forward next season
Young Jaques fits the bill, quick off the mark, good defence and can pass the ball well from a play the ball

I agree, I think he’s our long-term 13.Tigers1926 wrote: ↑01 Dec 2020, 09:09 Young Jaques fits the bill, quick off the mark, good defence and can pass the ball well from a play the ball
Re: Loose forward next season
I think O’Neil showed enough last year to get first shot at the 13 shirt

And mine. He looks a rugged enthusiastic young kid with plenty of grit. He will be a top player for us in the coming years.
Re: Loose forward next season
I'd start Oneill 13 but wouldn't surprise me if Gaz got 13 jumper

O. Neill will be in for Trueman so don't think be loose forward. The pack is too small as it is even we new rules proven you still need a big pack down middle. What's o. How’d you figure that one out?
Trueman is a stand off
O’Neill is a hooker / LF
If your “Trueman to Warrington” rumour becomes fact, don’t you think that GOB will replace Trueman at stand off ? Even Jordan Turner can turn his hand to playing 6 and I think he’ll play in that role before O’Neill ever will.
