Powell
Re: Powell
Is Evalds definitely only contracted for 1 year.
Sounds ominous to me not only about player but coach as well potentially....

Re: Powell
Yes, but there must be something in it with a contract extension if he triggers it etc. Not a chance would we chase someone of his calibre, to give a year deal, just to lose him to a rival after a year.

Re: Powell
If Cas have only signed him for 1 Year that's madness.heritage1926 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2020, 16:53Yes, but there must be something in it with a contract extension if he triggers it etc. Not a chance would we chase someone of his calibre, to give a year deal, just to lose him to a rival after a year.

Re: Powell
well as the money from Sky has just dropped by half, I consider it madness to offer longer contracts until we know for certain when our other major income (crowds), will be back paying cash.

Re: Powell
If that's the case why have we signed Gaz Obrien for 3 Years? Something smells fishy withe the Evalds signing. Hope I'm proved wrong though.Flat Capper wrote: ↑21 Dec 2020, 17:45 well as the money from Sky has just dropped by half, I consider it madness to offer longer contracts until we know for certain when our other major income (crowds), will be back paying cash.

Teams have signed players for four years and over a third of the money as gone and we've got a new deadly strain of Covid to deal with hard to make sense of anything at the minute

Re: Powell
Saints already have the ready made replacement within their squad to replace the current best full back in SL in Lachlan Coote when he eventually returns to Ozheritage1926 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2020, 12:13No doubt about that. Watson said Evalds is the best player he's coached. For me, he's top 3 fullback in SL.
Although, Saints fans seem to think Evalds is an option for replacing Coote when he returns to the NRL, who is incidentally OOC at the end of 2022 also.
His name is Jack Welsby and he will be the starting FB for England or GB for years to come as he is a sensational player.
IMO Evalds won't be going to Saints

Re: Powell
It's also far easier to fit a player like Leutele into your squad when you have young players that are in your starting squad that arent on the big bucks yet despite being in the starting 17 like the junior players that I mentioned earlier currently at the Giants? :-"MrRugby123 wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 21:20Giants have a money man that can afford these players, we’ve seen it before and we’ll see it again that buying lots of good players doesn’t always make you a good team but yes Huddersfield will be strong next season.Get into em wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 20:35 Giants have now signed a top quality centre in Leutele
He is the exact quality signing that we urgently need but sadly Huddersfield Giants have landed him
Mark my words that the Giants are going to be challenging for trophies and also finishing above us in the SL table for the foreseeable future
Perhaps we should try this secret tactic (That Leeds Rhinos did in the early 2000's) of producing quality kids for their first team and at a young age so as they aren't on full money and you can spend more on you quality overseas players like Webb,Lauitiiti etc as surely that would make you a better squad than all of the other clubs in the comp would it not?
It's far too easy to say that some SL clubs have a money backer as an excuse for being more successful than us IMO

Can you put some context on your claim as I’m sure that it isn’t factually correct.Get into em wrote: ↑22 Dec 2020, 21:43It's also far easier to fit a player like Leutele into your squad when you have young players that are in your starting squad that arent on the big bucks yet despite being in the starting 17 like the junior players that I mentioned earlier currently at the Giants? :-"MrRugby123 wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 21:20Giants have a money man that can afford these players, we’ve seen it before and we’ll see it again that buying lots of good players doesn’t always make you a good team but yes Huddersfield will be strong next season.Get into em wrote: ↑20 Dec 2020, 20:35 Giants have now signed a top quality centre in Leutele

Huddersfield have won one LLS in the last 10 years and had one MoS winner. We have won one LLS, lost one Grand Final and lost one CC Final and has for MoS winners.
Rich backer or not, I know who I think has been the most successful over this period.
Re: Powell
See how Watson gets on its a different kettle of fish now he's got a side people are tipping to do well compared to no pressure at Salford where no one expected them to do much

Re: Powell
Watson and DP are much of the same both have worked with undervalued players and got the best out of them, not much to choose between these two coaches will it work for Watson at Huddersfield time will only tell
Re: Powell
Yeah there are similarities... when Salford got to the Grand Final they had a very good spine to the team Evalds Hastings Lussick you don't need superstars in every position if you have a strong spine in your team and a good spirit you can go a long way in Rugby League
