There is debate about one of Dean Sampson’s appearances. He actually played in 431 games (putting him 2= with Atkinson) but he was an unused sub in one game, hence he is sometimes credited with 432 games. It all depends on whether you count being an unused substitute as an appearance!

My source wasn’t taken from Wikipedia, but from the club itself which I find more reliable.

Who mentioned Wikipedia?
No need to be so defensive. If you count the game when he was an unused substitute, Dean sits on 432 games. If you don’t count that game because he didn’t actually enter the field, he sits on 431. I’m not suggesting one is ‘right’ and one is ‘wrong’.
If I wanted to pick holes in the stats you’ve posted, I’d be pointing out that Tommy Taylor actually played 389 games (not 388).

All I can say is that my source has Tommy Taylor on 388, but accept that there could be misprints in both his and Dean Sampson’s statistics. I apologise if that’s the case, but when we’re talking about approximately 1,000 players, it’s hardly surprising that some errors occur. Incidentally have you any information as to whether Cas have actually reached 1,000 players yet, and if so who is the player with that
distinction?

Peter Mata’utia was #986. Have we had 13 debutants since him??

Peter Mata’utia was player 986 when he made his debut in mid-2018, but I haven’t counted on since then so it’s possible that player 1000 is in the current squad (if we have had 13 other Players debut since Mata’utia).

I don’t see any criticism towards Ken.
I love his stats but happy to correct if I see any that I think may be incorrect
Keep up the good work Ken

I agree, I don’t take it as criticism. I’m quite happy for nottinghamtiger or anybody else to put me right if indeed I’ve made an error, but doing research and posting statistics on this particular subject probably took me the best part of 5 hours to compile and as I’m 80 years old I do the best as I can.

In fact there’s another error, I’m actually 82 years old.

Lost all your credibility Ken
How can we rely on all of your input if you can't remember how old you are.
Seriously Ken.
The information you provide is great.
I have trouble remembering what l had for breakfast.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers

Yep, sometimes I can’t remember what year it is, never mind what day of the week it is. Yet I can remember things that happened during the Second World War as if it were only 10 years ago. It’s called nostalgia, not loss of memory. Maybe I’m actually 100🤫

Great work Ken. Amazing to see Shenny could be 3rd or even 2nd all time leading try scorer when he finishes up (and also in top 10 appearances). We went to school together and played football at Fryston and Rugby at Airedale high (he was a loose forward then). If you'd told me that then I would never have believed you, there were much better players around Cas at that age.

Just goes to show where hard work and a good attitude gets you. He isn't the most skillful of centres but you'd have to go a very long way to find a better professional than him. What a guy and a great ambassador for the club, hope he stays around the club after he finishes playing.

Great read Ken, great work.

Some of the all time greats in there and enjoyed watching most of them down the years. What would we give for a few more of these players now?
