7 years of Powell
7 years of Powell
On this day 7 years ago we hired DP into the role as Head coach at Castleford. What a job he has done. Here is to many more.
Re: 7 years of Powell
Be nice to win something tho bottled 2 finals so far. Needs to win something soon.
Re: 7 years of Powell
He’s won more than any other coach in the last 25 years
Re: 7 years of Powell
Some of the players bottled the GF not sure the coach did

Re: 7 years of Powell
I’d love to win something, but I remember watching a side coached by Ian Millward before Powell joined. I think we’d have gone down if we had kept Millward or not struck gold with Powell.
He’s by far the best signing the club has ever made in my opinion. He’s turned us from relegation candidates to cup and grand finalists, regularly finishing in the play-offs and beating the so-called top teams. All with limited resources and no shortage of obstacles to overcome, especially in terms of idiotic players and, in the first couple of years, major changes to the playing squad that seemed to weaken the team (eg the end of 2014).
Re: 7 years of Powell
I have little doubt that if Daryl were to stay on for another 7 years and lead us to glory he would have a stand named after him in our eventual new home or rejuvenated stadium

We will win a trophy with DP and it will be all the sweeter for the wait.
Have we ever had a more consistent 7 years in our history.....?

Re: 7 years of Powell
Possibly 1963 to 70 particularly in terms of trophies but generally I agree,
Re: 7 years of Powell
The man's a genius. Wouldn't change him for anything. But that doesn't mean he wouldn't be tempted if the right offer came along. Here's hoping we can satisfy his needs for a few more years. COYF.
Re: 7 years of Powell
Just as a caveat to the saluting or Daryl’s commitment and coaching ability, the thing I find extra pleasing is that
- he is one of us
- he is a lovely, genuine, humble and thoroughly decent bloke with a lovely wife and family.
I’ll be devastated when he leaves because we won’t find another like him. The best we can hope we is that he has chance to build a dynasty that can be continued.
For that, I see him rebuilding part of the side over the next 18 months and then going full steam ahead.
He’s got 2 yrs after this one has he? At the end of that contract, I can see another 2 year deal if we’re on the cusp.

Re: 7 years of Powell
Players come.
Players go.
The Culture within the club is by far the most important constant theme.
Powell and his coaching team.
John Wells.
The first players on my ' team sheet' every week.
Proud to be a Cas fan.
Since 1955.

All teams have bad patches and under perform.
Powell has had us playing at such a high standard for pretty much 6 straight years. Give or take phases where we have had injury issues. Even then our second team have beat teams like Wire Wigan and Saints.
Powell for me has been the best coach around for a long time. He's not the issue we have lost finals. Finals are won on the field by thee players. It's the players who bottle a final not the coach.
For me... The next 12 months will prove how good of a coach he is...
With players taking pay cuts
Lots of players out of contract
Need to get deals done
Need to sign new players in these hard times
Let's see what magic he can work.

Re: 7 years of Powell
This bloke took a team of underrated players and won the league by 10 points for his home town club, something which no other coach has done for Castleford. It was nice to win something,

Re: 7 years of Powell
You mean like all those other Cas tigers coaches in the last 25 years?
Relegated twice, bottom half of the table for most of super leagues history. Powell has never finished below 5th i think, and has Cas' first and only top division trophy in the SL Era, plus a grand final and cup final appearance.
Powell has been performing above and beyond expectations.
By all means, name a coach who'd do better.
Re: 7 years of Powell
Given me and my family our best memories and experiences supporting cas.from those millward days I could never have imagined the winning team we have now.thanks DP

Re: 7 years of Powell
DP shouldn't have to be dealing with players who want more money, contracts etc etc. By his own admission he does more than just coach the players, he does really care about our club, the Cas Tigers. He's built a team around himself in Danny Orr, Ryan Sheridan and the conditioning dept, along with the medical and ground staff and office management all gets us to when the boys and girls run out for a game. I'm sure it would take something unsurpassable for DP to leave the club he's built and love. He is far and away the best coach this side of the world, but to top it all he's a local bloke who connects with everything about the Tigers and that's why we the fans love the bloke and all that he is doing for the Tigers and the town. May it last as long as possible. In DP we trust COYF
