I guess without a governing body there’s no game.
However, I would suggest transparency on what it is being used on and why.
It’s criminal if rimmer is taking home around 20k a month!!

We will see. But Super League clubs and the RFL aren’t exactly on good terms at the moment, mostly due to Elston’s confrontational and arrogant attitude.
The RFL will prioritise the RFL. They will use this cash to replace lost revenue from cancelled events. If there is any left, then they will support clubs - but it’s likely to be lower-league ones and not SL.
https://www.loverugbyleague.com/post/rf ... es-losses/

“The RFL will take a big hit on the Challenge Cup, and it’s massively disappointing to lose the Ashes – due to the lost revenue, there will be the requirement for the RFL to use the loan facility.”

And there we have it.
Challenge Cup gate receipts are probably only around the £2.5m mark (it was £1.6m in 1991 with a crowd of 77k). You have to take into account
prize money, costs and renting of Wembley / another ground out of that too. Not sure internationals will be that big a hit (probably sponsor refunds and fees for cancellation of grounds?). Article seems to suggest £3m loss.

The RFL hasn't lost out on the GF and CC yet and there may be some fans in the ground potentially if they are allowed in so could claw some back. And some of that money could end up at clubs in the form or prize money for each round anyway.

So even if the RFL took say £3m, a lot of the clubs lower down will only need small amounts if anything at all given they are part time. In L1, I imagine most operate to small budgets of £300k or less, which is only £3.3m but then you have to take off a third of a year since players will have been working and playing as normal Dec-Mar, so more like £2.2m and that is before taking off furlough payments and cutting it down given clubs like Coventry will probably be operating on even less.

That leaves £10m+ or so for SL/Championship excluding Toronto, Catalans and Toulouse. Between 23 clubs that is £430k each, and again, I imagine there will be a sliding scale as clubs lower down in the Championship require less.

It seems like many clubs will only use it for emergency use, exploring other revenue streams first to try and minimise the amount they have to lend.

Ra ra played much more widely both at grass roots and professionally.
So proportionally we probably recieved a greater proportion.
Plus the profile of our respective codes ate differently aligned.

These are low interest loans and are repayable.

Ralph Rimmer just said all ten super league clubs in England took money out of the first 16 million in loans

You’re not far wrong, perhaps most of it went to Bradford Bulls, to finance their application for the 12th team to SL. Odsal upgrade won’t come cheap

RU is mostly community run apart from the top league. I bet most of the cash won’t touch the top flight. Unlike ours which will be used yet again to prop up the bottom clubs.

They also get far more coverage and have arguably a better product at the moment too. Gone are the days of stop start Rugby, that seems to be SuperLeagues problem at the moment.

I like both but dismiss RU at your peril if they can engage local youngsters (at school level) then they could suddenly have the pick of local talent.

Some sports were given money and RL were loaned the money to pay back. All clubs took it and if guess they would like it to be written off.

Also regarding the bigger amount going to the Rah-Rahs, it is a sport played in every corner of Britain, unlike ours

Rugby league at some level is played all over the U.K. and top level Union has its geographical weaknesses too

Whereas now there is no comparison between the two financially, the EnglishRFU as an entity rakes in £33 million a year in sponsorship from multinational corporations, the next world cup in France €60 million and counting and that's without TV rights. Clubs at grass roots level receive grants and funding......different world.

A friend of mine is very involved in running a community RU club in County Durham
His view is that the RFU is doing its best to disown and defund the amateur game with very little central funding coming in. Interesting.
