Great game management from Brough and what a player Awen Guttenbeil was. He was 31 years old in the 2007 Grand Final and could easily have played at Super League level.
Oh for another forward of his calibre to play for us now.

Some great tries in that game. Especially the one at end of first half where Benny Roberts breaks from our half and, whilst running full speed, puts kicks it through for Minikin to score.

Steady at Sheddingley when he left Morvin Edwards and Phil Ford sat on their khybers.

I remember being stood near some whines who absolutely slaughtered Steady at every opportunity and always ended by saying Who is Graham Steadman? I won't tell you what i said when Steady scored that try. Said whines then left the ground as the game was almost done for them. Happy days.

Still love to watch Jamie Sandy at Wembley, still looks like he won't make it.

That's one of the reasons the Hardaker try at Headingley is one of my favourites you could almost feel the pain of the assembled whinos plus I think it was nine or ten games in a row we'd beat them

Needless to say they had the last laugh that season tho

I haven't watched anywhere near as long as you have mate but I reckon the game has become too structured these days - not enough players just 'playing what they see' and certainly not as many characters in the game. Maybe make an interesting debate for its own thread?

Having watched the Cup Finals highlights show at the weekend it is prety clear to me that as well as more structure, the players area obviouly bigger, faster, stronger. This makes for a different type of RL but not necessarily one that cannot be played "off the cuff".

One thing was clear for all the games shown on Saturday and that is the fact they were all played in May when the weather and pitches were pretty good. Trying to play "off the cuff" on a mud bath in the depth of winter was a tad more difficult and we regularly saw slug fests.

Because of this, it is hard to judge whether the game has improved but it has moved on.

Personally i much prefer the game as it used to be instead of the 5 drives and kick that it is now, but that is just my opinion
