You can only play the team that is put out in front of you, and last night we did just that and got a well deserved 2 points. DP and his team got the tactics spot on, despite the usual tactics from O'Laughlin and partners in crime. It's early in the season but we have 4 points outa 4 and you can't ask for more than that. You'd like to think we can only get stronger as the season goes on, so let's keep getting behind the boys and the club as a whole. #oneclub 🐯 COYF 💪

Plenty of people insist Powell has taken Cas as far as he can (a Grand Final, a Cup Final, a League Leaders Shield, consistently challenging for playoff spots).

This season is young but with a lot of injuries Cas have taken the 4 points on offer.

I still have not had a single answer from the naysayers as to who they'd have replace Powell either.

Steve Gill was 100% Cas and as a club as a whole we owe the bloke some gratitude for what he did. In my eyes he should always be welcomed down the lane. As for swapping DP for another coach, I don't think so!! In DP we trust 🐯 COYF 💪

Exactly. Let’s not forget how close to the precipice we were when Jack asked SG to take the helm. Ferris would have had us in administration.

We just going to forgot he sacked the best full back we’ve had in super league era ? Especially before even finding out how long his ban was going to be

DP was on his way to Cas before Steve Gill was given the job, don’t think it was all down to him because it was not for sure.

If SG was such a saviour why was he sacked? Because DP wanted rid because he couldn’t work with him. He gave the club a “Its me or him” ulitimatum and the rest is history.

Where is he now? He went to Keighley and couldn’t hack it. Now out of the game. Says it all.

How many other SL clubs are queuing up to give “The Saviour” a job? That will be none because he is not what some clowns on here think he is/was.

Oh my word
Steve Gill is not "out of the game"
He is General Manager at Featherstone Rovers and has been instrumental in them getting to their grand Final last year and has been highly involved in their latest big signings.
But dont let these facts get on the way !!!

We had 10 or so players not available for selection which made our choices limited but probably only 5 or 6 of these would have been in the 17 man squad

Let’s be clear here: no sporting club continues to employ a player who is serving a WADA suspension.
You simply do not continue to pay circa £150k to someone who cannot do the job they are employed to do.
The club were absolutely right to dismiss a player who had tested positive for a banned substance.
The decision was proven to be right as Hardaker spent the time he was banned developing an alcohol dependency.
He has not been anywhere near the same player since he returned to the game either. So much so that a player who couldn’t get a spot in the NRL has displaced him at Wigan.

100% correct he would have walked. Now if SG was so fantastic as some people seem to think then why was he sacked? Because he wasn’t and isn’t what some people think at all.

DPnis the main reason we a his ex what we did and hopefully he is around for a long time. As I said he was on his way to Cas before SG took the job he did.

Imagine where we would be now if the club had not backed DP and stuck with Gill. We would be where Featherstone are or worse.

Come on lofthouse tiger, have a bit of respect for your fellow bloggers and concentrate on the issue. Steve Gill was at the time the saviour of the club and if the club had stuck with Ferris we might not be here on a forum for Cas Tigers at all. Steve did a great job at the time when no one wanted the job, and sure everyone's time comes to a end in whichever way, but let's remember what he did at the time. DP has been absolutely fantastic for the club and long may it continue.

Just a question. Was the Powell signing a Gill decision or one made by the Board, chaired by Jack?

I always thought Gill appointed him after we'd been after another couple of notables before him after Basil left Justin Morgan being one not sure tho

Think Gill pushed for Powell and was pivotal, JF will have had to sign off on it of course.

Jacks preference was James Lowes. It was Gill that dug his heals in and persuaded him that Powell was the man. Certainly Gills best achievement in his rein at Cas. He did make one almighty howler though at the end of his tenure didn’t he?

Gill certainly made his own position untenable by the time he left, but anyone denying Gill was instrumental in turning round the club's fortunes is deluding themselves. The final acts of his tenure may taint the memory but he played a significant part in galvanizing and revitalizing us after the Millward/Ferres debacle.
