Powell’s Magic Touch

Post by Tigerwood posse » 08 Feb 2020, 14:09

Last nights victory over a full strength Wigan side has made me realise that after following Cas for 46 years, it’s clear that we are enjoying an exceptional era in the clubs history, many years have come and gone, but memories fade in regards to the bad times of the past. Step forward Daryl Powell and we have now become a highly respected top end, Super League side, 5 highly competitive years with a league leaders shield and a Wembley and Grand Final appearance, not only that, but the fact that we know that we have the team and coaching set up to beat any team in any given day and also a very elusive attribute of consistency, we are now highly respected and it’s clear that Daryl is a massive part of this, his knowledge, Motivational skill and man management are clearly superior to many coaches in the league and we are so lucky to have him, which brings me to last nights game, the plan was to shift the ball and don’t do battle with their forwards so much and use a very astute kicking game and clever substitutions and interchanges, it worked!! ... to win that game with that team last night, says everything you need to know about Daryl Powell, it was nothing short of a miracle with so many missing and let’s not forget, it’s not the first time that he’s pulled this off.... I just want to say thank you to DP his team For the last 5 years and the players that dug in, they obviously play for Daryl and are very tight!! .... on paper, our team couldn’t win last night, but as we all know, Rugby League is not played on paper.

Wigan were nowhere near full strength. Burgess, Powell, Manfredi, Gildart, Greenwood, Flower to name five.

Nothing like hard facts to spoil a very positive post.

True but Greenwood wasn't selected I believe.
Don't think Sam Powell would have made any difference either.

Burgess, Manfredi, Greenwood, Clarke and Bullock all could have played but not selected. That’s not our problem, Lam picked what he thought was his strongest line up.

Burgess would have strengthened Cas line up.
We had eleven or twelve squad members injured.
Some returning after long lay off Holmes playing injured.
Trueman with a migraine and so on.
Regardless of the relative merits injuries strengths and weaknesses.
We won, we won well and the Old girl was rocking.
There are times when objectivity is a great perspective.
All l know is beating Wigan is always good and the buzz as we made our way home beats any statistics or player comparison.
Love nights like yesterday not sure what the GP would have said about my blood pressure.
Wonderful night.
Great Performance
Great Coaching.
It's what we live for

We beat what was on front of us and deservedly so, DP managed our resources better than Lam and the game plan was executed to perfection by a committed team.

Can’t believe that one poster thought our team was a stronger team than Wigan’s on paper and to mention permanently injured Manfredi is plainly ridiculous, the players of Wigan’s that were out are virtually interchangeable with the players that came in, we did not have that luxury!!!

Wigan are not a wonder side far from it we were far stronger than them in the starting forwards and that went a long way to winning us the game

DP's resources were far more depleted than Lam's last night.

Lam's post match comments underline that. They would have travelled over with high expectations of returning with the win based on us having 10 players out. He seems super hacked off about how we stifled and out fought them.

It was a sweet and impressive performance from us.
